"Darn it, she's right," Star-Lord said. "As an earthling with some experience of being kidnapped by aliens myself, I have to say it kinda sucks at the start, so I don't wanna force it on this dude."
"Yay!" Mantis squealed, clapping her hands.
"Of course, since it was your idea, you have to look after him until we get him back to normal."
"You say that like you think it is bad?"
One by one, the other Guardians shook their heads and left the room, leaving Mantis alone with her new charge. Mantis stooped to look directly into the jar, causing Spider-Man to jump back in shock. "Hi there!" she said, waving at the little man. Observing him running to the opposite side of the container, her expression fell. "Oh, no need to be afraid of this one! I am here to help you. I will demonstrate."
Peter hugged the jar tight as the giant alien reached out, her hand grasping the object and hefting it from the table with no effort. Thank you, spider powers, he whispered, as he remained stuck evenwhen the container was hauled high. The other hand grasped the ceiling, popping it off with a simple twist. "Out you come," Mantis said, and with no other option Peter crawled up and out, standing on the very lip of the jar.
"No, onto my hand," she insisted, laying her free hand out palm-up next to him. Peter considered. She did seem to want to help him, but were the other Guardians really joking? Could he trust this all to play out okay? He didn;t know them well, but he did know that the team wasn't the most competent around. He could always just hang around their spaceship in secret until he got a chance to use a space radio or whatever to contact the Avengers - some REAL heroes - to come to his rescue.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
