Elena’s eyes fluttered open, but the world around her felt... off. The darkness of the forest was gone, replaced by an unnatural stillness. The air was thick, almost oppressive, and a sharp coldness gripped her limbs. Her body, stiff and unresponsive, felt alien to her own. She blinked rapidly, trying to focus, but her surroundings seemed to shift like a mirage, everything too bright, too sharp.
Her breath came in ragged gasps as her eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, but then she realized something. It wasn’t her breath.
The rhythm of the inhalations, the movement of her chest—everything was wrong. She was aware of every breath, every beat of the heart that pulsed in her chest, but none of it felt real. She felt… distant. Detached.
And then, as if from far away, a voice—not hers—whispered through her mind.
"It is time to awaken."
A cold, alien sensation flooded her senses, sweeping over her like a wave crashing against the shore. Her mind was not her own anymore; it was being… explored. Probed. A sudden flood of thoughts and memories that were not hers began to seep through, like intruders trying to pick through every corner of her brain.
“Who… who are you?” Elena thought weakly, her voice barely a whisper in the vastness of her consciousness. What is happening to me?
A cold, emotionless presence touched her mind—a strange sensation, like fingers running across her memories. It was not her thoughts. It was not her voice.
"I am Vrax," came the voice, smooth and unyielding, filling her mind like a cold, calculating wave. "I am here to learn. You are my host now."
Elena’s body twitched in response, but she had no control over it. She could feel it moving, standing, but it was as if her limbs were no longer her own. Her eyes, those foreign, glassy eyes, scanned the forest—every tree, every branch, as if seeing the world through new, alien lenses.
“No…” she tried to scream, but the voice was swallowed by the oppressive force in her mind. She could no longer separate herself from it. It was inside her.
Vrax’s presence in her mind was everywhere. She could feel it listening to every thought, touching every memory, searching through the fragments of her past. Her childhood, her family, her education—all of it was laid bare, analyzed, dissected with chilling precision.
"So… this is Earth," Vrax said, its voice laced with curious detachment. "The world you call home. A planet rich with resources. And you… you are human. A fragile, emotional creature." The words seemed almost dismissive, but there was an underlying thread of fascination. "Your species is… inefficient. Primitive."
A sharp pang of anger surged through Elena, but it was short-lived. The alien had control. It was using her body, making her feel what it wanted her to feel. She couldn’t even form words to argue, let alone act on the anger bubbling up inside her. She was a prisoner in her own mind.
“What do you want from me?” Elena thought, her voice a desperate echo in the vast void of her consciousness.
"I am a scout," Vrax responded, its words cold, clinical. "I am part of a larger force. My people are coming. Your planet will be ours. I have been sent here to observe, to gather information. You will be my vessel."
The weight of Vrax’s words hit her like a punch to the gut. Elena tried to recoil, tried to push against the alien’s presence, but it was as if her mind was bound by invisible chains.
“You… you’re going to invade? You’re lying to me!” Elena thought fiercely, but Vrax only responded with a quiet, detached laugh.
"You misunderstand," it said. "I am not lying. I am merely telling you the truth. I will use your body to spy, to collect data on your species, your technology, your weaknesses. I will blend in with your kind, infiltrating your world while you remain locked away in this prison." The voice softened ever so slightly, almost as if savoring her terror. "And you will never escape."
Elena’s body moved again, a strange, robotic precision to her movements as she walked deeper into the forest, her eyes now scanning every object, every motion, as if she were a machine. It was as though she were a spectator in her own body, watching helplessly as Vrax took her along with it.
"You are my chosen host," Vrax continued, its voice more assured now, more certain. "I have examined many humans, but you… you were perfect. Your biology, your emotions, your intelligence. You are an ideal vessel."
Elena tried to scream. She tried to fight, but it was useless. Her thoughts were fading, slipping further from her grasp. She could feel the presence of Vrax inside her like a cold, invasive force, pushing aside everything that was her. The memories, the connections, the very essence of who she was—all slipping away.
"You are nothing now," Vrax said, its voice a chilling echo. "You will be the one who carries out my will. I will learn. And soon… you will be forgotten."
As Elena’s body moved, her mind became a blur of fragmented thoughts, no longer her own, no longer anything resembling who she had been. The only thing that remained was the overwhelming presence of Vrax, cold and calculating, lurking in every corner of her consciousness. And there was nothing she could do to stop it. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
