Nearly everyone in the class had seen small humans before, usually in comedic or semi-comedic roles on television or n the movies. And you definitely knew who Peter Dinklage was. But there's a difference between someone who's four and a half feet tall and someone who is two and a half foot tall.
There's also a difference between someone who is very short for their species and someone who is within the average range height of their species. And Ms. Smith might have been on the short side for a halfling, but it wasn't unheard of for a halfling to be only two and a half feet tall.
You've never seen a halfling before. Not in person. Most halflings live in the Vernow Territory, a semi-autonomous region where it's illegal for humans and most beings to enter. Those few halflings who leave the territory are usually actors, entertainers and such. You've never heard of a halfling leaving the territory just to be a substitute teach.
Yet here Ms. Smith was, introducing herself to your class.
In a lot of ways. Ms. Smith looked like a really hot human woman who had been shrunk down to more than half her size. She did have slightly pointy ears. She didn't have hairy feet. though, (You could tell because she was wearing sandals).
