Chapter #4The Shrink Ray! by: Ëtalfni   "Is this all legit?" Nick found himself asking as he grabbed the first thing his eyes caught. "A shrink ray?"
"Yup! You doubt me?"
Somehow he didn't. You didn't just pull someone to the side and reveal a secret compartment behind a locked door without the thing it protected having some sort of value or hidden agenda. But come on. A shrink ray? What was this, a science fiction movie?
"It's just a little hard to believe," Nick explained, trying not to offend the goat. "I mean, I know Zootopia is an advanced city and all. But I don't quite think we're there yet in terms of technology."
"Mm, true! But who says something like this is from the city?"
Nick couldn't help but wonder what Stephanie meant by that before she shooed him along with a wave of her hooves.
"I can see you need a demonstration though," continued the goat as she raised both of her arms. "Go on then. Fire away! Make me as small as you'd like. Then you'll see the truth."
Nick raised an eye. It was common practice for any sort of salesmammal to put their money where their mouth was in terms of the product they were selling. But if this ray gun was legit, like Nick was starting to suspect it was, then the goat was putting a lot of faith in him with her great height. She was bigger than Bogo, who was already around eight feet while Nick stood at a measly three feet in comparison. But she was also quite insistent with her staring down at Nick, encouraging him to go through with it.
"Alright," Nick finally relented. "Let's see if this works..."
Without another beat, he pulled the trigger and a blast of red light rocketed from the gun and struck Stephanie right in the torso. Despite looking quite violent, the goat let out a slight giggle as she began to descend towards the floor.
Nick was in awe as he continued holding down the trigger as the once titanic sized goat was now getting smaller and smaller before his very eyes. She battled with her pants before just giving up and letting them drop to the floor. Her red sweater was the only thing covering her now as she dropped to half her height and was quickly approaching Nick's own size before the fox realized what he was doing and let off his finger on the trigger.
"Oh my," Stephanie cried as she wobbled into place with a shirt that was more like a dress on her stunted self. "That was quite the drop! I haven't been at this size in quite some time..."
"What?" Nick asked. "You mean it actually worked? And you've been shrunk before?"
"Of course, my boy. You don't think I'm naturally that tall, do you? I just happened to be in a giant mood. Size is relative, after all. And, as you can see, the ray only works on organic material, namely people. Now that I've proven to you that my product is, in fact, 'legit,' are you still interested in purchasing it?"
Nick was left stunned. He had really just shrunk someone to half of their size with a shrink ray. He suddenly felt the power in his paws. What he could do with this thing. The people he could impress...
"...Yes," he finally found his normally witty tongue again. "Very interested."
"Perfect! And may I ask who is its intended target?"
Nick thought for a moment. Who was her trying to impress? The thought even occurred that Nick could just blast Stephanie till she was mouse sized and make off with all her other gadgets. But he wasn't that kind of fox, was he?
Nick's target with the shrink ray would be...  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
