"...I don't know how else to describe it other than they morphed into something else," Judy continued, barely believing the words that had come out of her own mouth. "Transformed, in a word. One moment, they were this raccoon scowling at me. The next, they were shriveling up into their clothes and almost disappearing into thin air leaving only their outfit behind. We almost turned around to go looking where they could have gone had I not noticed slight movement in their sleeves."
"I see," Stephanie replied, fighting to smile. "And what did our raccoon friend transform into?"
"A rat," Judy answered curtly. "They tried to scurry away the moment they thought we had given up on them. I stepped on their tail before they could make it into a crack in the wall and we brought them back to the station. Of course, no one believed me and my partner when we tried to tell them about it back at the ZPD. They just thought the culprit was a rat and we had a case of mistaken identity. Even my partner started to believe it and we were forced to let them go, though not before I questioned where they got the vial in the first place...After threatening to keep them trapped in a pickle jar from the rest of their life."
Stephanie laughed. "That was quick thinking of you. And rest assured, I'm very careful with my clients and who purchases from my stock. If someone fitting that description shows up searching for a cure, I'm going to tell them that they better start looking at apartments in Little Rodentia and get used to it."
"So, it is true," Judy said with some relief. "For a minute I thought I was just going crazy or something. Even though I could believe my own eyes, everyone at the station thought I had finally snapped and was working to hard. I was a bit of a laughingstock around the water cooler for a few days until I finally decided to come here and prove it once and for all..."
"Indeed," Stephanie grinned. "Well done. You managed to find the biggest secret in Zootopia, here in my quaint little shop."
"But how is something like this even possible? I mean, science has been making leaps and advancements but nothing close to the realm of feasible as changing from one species to another."
"I assure you that it's possible and there are all sorts of methods to achieve it, but that's a discussion for later. Though you said you were here to confirm your beliefs, something tells me that there's more to it than that."
"...More to it?"
"Come now," said Stephanie crossing her arms. "You don't have to be coy with me. I've been in this business for a very long time, Officer Hopps. I can sense a healthy interest in what I do here when I see it. Tell me, what's the real reason why you've come here asking about my products?"
Judy was rather taken aback at the giant goat's candor. Yet she couldn't deny that Stephanie was wrong about her intuition either. The truth was, she had been expecting this first visit to be all about dipping her toe in these new and unfamiliar waters. And here Stephanie was dragging her into the deep end.
What did Judy want? She knew almost immediately. The truth was she was very interesting in this idea of transforming, the reason for that being...
