Judy hummed to herself as she went about the rest of her day, returning to the ZPD with the necklace buried beneath her shirt. Every once and a while she'd play with it a few times like one would with a new toy. Though she never forgot why she had taken the tooth in the first place. On the surface level it was to become more confident, like Stephanie said. Beyond that though, she had been seeking the attention of someone else in particular.
Things between her and Nick had been been good as friends, though secretly Judy had been looking for a way to consider taking things to the next level. The trouble was working up the nerve to signal to him that she was even interested. Different species dating was one thing. A predator and prey dating was something else entirely.
But Judy was determined to turn over a new leaf as an opportunity came up after work.
"Yo, Carrots," said Nick as the two of them prepared to clock out. "Five o'clock already, huh? Got any plans tonight?"
The chance was clear as day as Judy knew what she wanted to do was ask Nick out. It was just a shame that her own beating heart was giving her palpitations as she tried to calm herself and remembered what Stephanie told her. Be confident. Be bold.
"Actually," Judy spoke up. "Are you doing anything tonight, Nick?"
"Me? Nope. I was just going to sit in the old sock drawer and watch the tube."
"Because I was wondering...Want to go get some dinner together or something? You know, just the two of us?"
Judy felt a weird warmth in her chest just where the amulet was resting. She had done it. She had made the first step in being confident in herself by asking her crush out on a small date. Nothing too huge, but it was definitely a big step compared to the holding pattern they had been lingering in for months.
Nick looked surprised but then smiled. "That could be fun. What were you thinking? Tuskies? Or Maybe Chataeu de Cheese? Or maybe...Huh."
Judy realized that Nick's pause was directed to her as he stared at her. "What?"
"Nothing, just never realized that your teeth were so sharp before. Jeez, they almost look like fangs."
Judy ran her tongue around her mouth to discover some unfamiliar pointy shapes inside, much different from the usual flatness she was used to with her teeth. That was...Strange. And more to the point, it was making her feel weird around Nick. Not much confident at all. Though Judy tried to maintain her ego.
