Stephanie had an idea. A bit of a mean idea, but something that would be immensely entertaining all the same as she dug around beneath her counter.
"This friend of yours," said the goat. "Do you ever think that the only gift he really needs is the gift you could provide him yourself?"
"I, uh, I don't know what you mean."
"Darlin', you don't need to get your friend any fancy item to let him know you're interested in you. In fact, I think all you need to give him enough of a hint is a private moment alone with the two of you. Have a nice little confrontation about it, you know?"
Judy did. She had been trying many times these past few months when she had known her feelings to get Nick alone so she could blurt them out. But nothing seemed to work and with their job, they were so busy without a moment of privacy to really get into it. So she never really tried.
"Here's my proposal," Stephanie said, bringing up a strange box. "You take this for no charge. Call this a supplement. It's a special brand of tea that you can use to calm yourself and bring you down a level, in a manner of speaking. Take a bag of it and wait at a private place you know just the two of you will be. Have a drink and just let what happens happen."
Judy wasn't sure how a brand of tea was going to solve all her problems. But there was something to the goat's voice that suggested she should trust her. Judy gingerly accepted the box and said her thanks.
"Are you sure?" Judy asked before walking out the door. "Giving this to me for free, I mean."
"Call it a future investment," Stephanie said with a wink. "Good luck, honey. Don't cheese it now."
Little did Judy know, it was Stephanie's intention to put Judy in a situation where she would be forced to confront Nick without any hope of escape. Judy was being too mousy about her feelings, so it was only fitting that she should be turned into a mouse. The only question was where Judy would choose to meet with Nick, if it was to be in a private setting or someplace a little more public and thus dangerous.
