Chapter #6

Soulbound

    by: Ëtalfni Author IconMail Icon
The morning started like any other.

Zack sat up in his bed and stretched, noticing nothing out of the ordinary save for the heavy ruby amulet he was wearing. The events that had transpired the night before came rushing back to him.

"Oh yeah," he muttered. "I made a deal with that stupid, fat bitch."

Manners, Zachery.

Zack froze. That nagging female voice had come from seemingly nowhere, yet it was like he could hear it in his head. Looking around his bedroom, he saw nothing. No one was there but himself.

The mirror, if you would. That's a good boy.

If it hadn't been literally the first thing in the morning, Zack might have been concerned that hearing voices in his head was probably a bad sign. Nevertheless, he was curious. Especially because the voice sounded very familiar. As he stumbled on over to his hanging wall mirror, he soon discovered why that was.

It wasn't his reflection that was staring back at him. Instead, standing in his place in the mirror, was Kelly Mina although she was wearing the exact same pajamas that Zack was wearing.

That's better, she said, putting her hands on her particularly wide hips. I thought it might be best to discuss matters face to face, as it were. As I'm sure you have questions.

"...How the?" Zack managed to stutter out. It truly looked as though Kelly had utterly replaced him. "Is this some sort of trick mirror?"

No tricks, Zack. I assure you that I am genuine. I'm not just in your head. Surely you didn't expect me to spend all day with you, did you? I have a life, after all. Besides, I never said I would be *physically* spending time with you, now did I?

Zack somewhat felt insulted by that as he growled. "Then what the hell is this?"

Oh, just a simple enchantment really. You see that amulet you're wearing is imbued with a portion of a soul. *My* soul. I'm a witch, after all. Not like one of those Halloween store cackling green creatures, no. I'm an actual witch with spells and magic, whose duty it is to help people see the error of their ways.

"Fuck off! You never said anything about being in my head! It's this stupid necklace that's doing this, right?"

It is, but I'd be careful, Zack. The simple act of wearing the amulet has created a bond between us. A bond only the real me can undo. We're connected now, you see. Almost like we've become one being. Let me prove it to you. Allow me to get more...Comfortable.

Zack didn't like the sound of that as there was an odd warmth passing through his entire body. He also noticed that the ruby in the amulet had begun to glow in the mirror, pulsing like it was the source of the heat. Zack's breathing quickened as he felt as if his morning was about to get that much stranger.

Little did he know that would be an understatement as Mirror Kelly clasped the amulet. She was about to do something, the only question was what?
