Max had a great time at Cassie and Rhea's home. Being babied sure was fun, and sure was wanting to do it again some time. Being fed cake while in a high chair, playing with his food and not getting scolded. Even a few times, he didn't realize he had used his diaper, before Rhea checked him. And the pouch ride and bottle feeding were fun too. Now he was back to being treated like his normal age.
And he felt it was that time to head home. So, he said he told Rhea and Cassie he'd be back soon for more fun, and started chanting, "I wish, I wish to use this rhyme, to go back home, until next time."
............................ Nothing happened. Everyone knew this was where he usually teleported away to his home realm. He tried again, being careful to say the right words. Same result. Max was still in Rhea's family cave. "W-What's going on? Why won't the rhyme work? I should be going back to the human realm."
Rhea was puzzled herself. "I'm not sure myself honey," she admitted.
"Maybe we should go and see Quetzal. He might know what's going on," Cassie suggested.
Rhea nodded, "That's a good idea dear."
Rhea then placed Max in her pouch, feeling he'd be more safe there while they flew to the school. After they landed, Quetzal saw them and greeted them with "Ola everyone. What brings you here at this time?"
"Well, Quetzal. We seem to have a slight problem. See little Max here.... he can't get home. The rhyme you taught him and Emmy, he said it twice, but, he didn't get transported home like usual. We were wondering if you might provide an answer," Rhea explained.
"I see, well, I have a possible idea, but I have to make sure, and, I am afraid, it may not be good news," Quetzal informed them.
Max was worried what the bad news was. Had he done something wrong. would he be punished and that's why he can't go back. As Quetzal flew into the school, and came back out with one of his books, he sifted through the pages, and read a bit on one page before looking back up at everyone. "Well, this is not the best news to hear. The reason Max can not return to his realm, it is because the scale that he and his sister have been using to come here, has shattered. That was the only link that allowed them to travel here and back to their land safely. Max....... he is going to have to stay in Dragon Land."
"I-I can't go back?" Max stammered.
Quetzal shook his head in sorrow. Max faltered back a bit, and Rhea caught him. "Easy honey. It's okay, we're here for you," She assured him.
She picked him up and let him cry into her shoulder. She looked back to Quetzal. "There is no way to return him to his human land?" She inquired.
"Unless his sister can find another scale to transport herself here and take him back with the magic of that scale or mend the scale from her realm, which I haven't found to be possible as of yet, the only other way to take him home is go past the great vortex senorita," Quetzal answered.
Rhea knew that there was no way she would take him anywhere near the Great Vortex. It was too dangerous for even Dragons to cross. Only one Dragon ever attempted to do so, and was lost to it, never seen again. And with how fragile Max was compared to them, that was even more reason to keep him away from the Great Vortex.
As she let Max continue have his time to let out his tears, she said "Well, then he will officially be adopted as my son. But, is there anything else we can do for Max to better accommodate him here in our land. Do we have any means to let him become one of us?"
"Well, let me speak with you alone about that Mrs. Rhea," Quetzal requested.
"Alright. Max dear. Cassie will keep you company while I talk to Quetzal, are you gonna be okay?" Rhea inquired.
Max wiped away the last of his tears and nodded to her. Cassie came over as Rhea set him down, and hugged him, as Rhea followed Quetzal to another area away from Max and Cassie's ears. "There is a way to make him a full fledged dragon. The way we can do that will require that........"
