Chapter #2

More Game Genre Choices!

Before Eugene could put mind to keyboard, beefy tanned hands pulled the machine away from his hands.

“Who made this?” asked Peter, lifting up the geodesic dome of the game. “Makes me think ‘a one of those Speak n’ Spells, just, uh giant.”

“Ah, be careful,” pleaded the board’s owner, hands haltingly reaching towards his property. “It feels really, really fragi— wait a sec.”

A flash of white had caught Eugene’s eye as the jock, now conscious of his friend’s discomfort, gingerly lowered the gizmo. “What is it, dude?”

“Uh, can you just, like, lift it up a smidge again?”

Peter complied with no effort at all, hoisting the board well above everyone’s heads. Eugene snuck under the machine and started scraping at its bottom with a fingernail.

“You gonna tell us what you’re doing, Geno?” asked Peter. “‘cuz I don’t really want to do this all day. I mean, I could, but board games are, uh, a preferable alternative.”

“Yeah what’re you, like, doin’ Genie?” piped up Lindsey.

“There’s a- come on you—. Ugh. Hey Judy, you have fingernails, right?”

“Sure do.” responded the goth, flashing her black talons. “What needs slicing?”

She padded over to the raised contraption, and, realization dawning on her face, started scratching assiduously.

Peter lowered his head beneath the board. “Are you guys gonna tell us what’s going on?”

“Be silent, man-slave,” commanded Judy. “Half rations for talking back!”

Lindsey giggled as Peter raised his half-annoyed, half-amused head back above the board. After a few minutes more of conversationless scraping, Judy let out a squawk of triumph.

“Got it!”

“So, can I put this down now?” complained Peter.

“Sure you can, you poor baby.” crooned Judy in response. Boyfriend and girlfriend settled back onto the couch, the latter stroking her lover’s bicep after tossing something quickly to Eugene.

“Genie, what is ittttt,” whined Lindsey, sidling close and propping her elbows on Eugene’s knee — far too close for the geek’s comfort. “You’re all mysterious n’ stuff and I wanna knooooooooow.”

Eugene kept his gaze firmly eye-level and adjusted his eyeglasses nervously. “I, uh, there’s- underneath th’ board, there was— taped to it, really, so I —”

As his cheeks grew redder and redder with every syllable of incomprehensible babbling, Eugene just shoved a white piece of card-stock into her hands and turned away, punctuating his embarrassment with a mumbled “Notecard.”

(Judy whispered into Peter’s ear while the other two were looking away, the current-couple sharing a surreptitious chuckle.)

Lindsey’s eyes roamed over the paper, reading the supernaturally neat script aloud for the room.

To whomever this probably concerns,
Heya! If you’re reading this now, you probably have excellent taste, or you just like looking at the bottom of random game boards, you weirdo!
So I’m supposed to keep things interesting or whatever, so I added in a buncha modes for you?
Just give ‘em a type, I’m sure that you might maybe possibly potentially concievably like them!
~U.

P.S. ;)

Following the messages was a list of small letters that trailed off to the bottom of the card.

“Did you have to read ‘winky face’?” asked Judy, a contoured eyebrow curved with doubt.

“So these are, like, custom game modes?” pondered Peter. “They might be zanier than the default ones it came with.”

“I don’t remember seeing this before,” murmured Eugene, lost in thought. “Kinda curious to see what some of these do.”

“We can, like, restart it if they’re boring too, so, go for it, Genie!” cheered Lindsey, pumping an enthusiastic pink-nailed fist in the air.

“Alright, how about we try…?”
