"You know nothing, Ian Ice."
It was a common taunt from the Chapter's trainer. It usually preceded some action on her part that would put you on your ass.
It had been a month since you had graduated from the Heroes' Academy, been knighted, and reported to the northern Chapter House of the Order of the Black Wolf. Once you reported to the Chapter House, you were immediately assigned further training under the tutelage of Lady Aral Silvercraft.
Lady Silvercraft was a grizzled woman in her forties who looked to be in her sixties. She was nothing but skin, bone and gristle, but she was one of the deadliest warriors in the Order. She also had very little patience for the "third born children and high born bastards" that the Order sent to her for her "special polishing."
You didn't understand why she was using Ice, rather than Tavernson, as your surname. That was until you learned she was calling you Ian Ishe, not Ian Ice. Ishe, in the dialect of the north, Ishe referred to the feces that remained in an anus even after a thorough wiping.
As you predicted, a few seconds after Lady Silvercraft taunted you, you find yourself looking up at her face.
"That's it for today, Ian Ice," She told you. "We'll start again tomorrow after breaking fast and second prayers."
You groan as you get to your feet. You thought that, after graduating the Heroes' Academy, you'd start adventuring. You didn't expect to continue training, and nothing would have prepared you for Lady SIlvercraft.
With a sigh, you head to the communal dining hall for supper. You wish you could get out of training tomorrow. Your body could use a day of rest and recuperation.
No chance of that happening, you tell yourself, as you head for supper and the day's final prayers.
Unbeknownst to you, your wish is going to be granted. For tomorrow, while you're breaking your fast,
