Your hands shake uncontrollably as you read the stamped address and name on the envelope you just retrieved from your mailbox. It's from Doors of Fate, in response to the application you sent in months ago. Taking a deep breath, you slowly tear the envelope open and slide out the packet of pages inside, and begin to read.
Congratulations, Keller! You've been selected from a pool of thousands of applicants to compete in Doors of Fate! This introduction package will familiarize you with the rules and regulations of the show. Also contained herein is a disclaimer a complete waiver of liability and responsibility. Please familiarize yourself with the rules of the show, as they will not be explained to you should you choose to compete. Thank you for your participation, and we hope we can make your dreams a reality!
You turn to the second page, your heart racing wildly. This could be your only chance to get out of living in the slums and become something more. The next page is the rules and regulations.
1. Once you enter the studio building, you MUST compete
2. In every room you enter, you will be given a choice between several doors. Behind each door you will be required to choose a task or challenge you must complete to advance.
3. If you can't complete a chosen task, you must either try again until you do, or choose another task in the same room.
4. Doors to previous rooms will lock behind you automatically. There is no turning back.
5. The number of rooms you must complete is entirely random. Some contestants win in just a few tasks while others can go for days or even weeks at a time.
6. You are obliged to compete until you either win the prize, or are deemed mentally or physically incapable of continuing.
7. "Extras" will be used during your run. They are being paid well for their participation, and have waived all of their rights in order to do so.
8. Food and drink will be provided to you in between rooms. You must eat and drink after each task, or you will be barred from continuing. These segments will not be televised.
9. There is no audience present during your filming. Cameras will record your every move, and broadcast them across the world.
10. The waiver on the next page absolves our company of any and all liability, including for bodily injury and mental stress, and also waives your rights as a human being. Once the waiver is signed and submitted, there is no turning back.
You turn to the last page of the packet. The waiver is straightforward and no nonsense. You grab a pen and your hand shakes as you read it.
