It was evening at the town mall and all the stores were closed. There were still people working, finishing up their shifts, taking stock or preparing the store for the next day. A nasty storm had been raging outside and as the power went out. A robed figure entered the mall, completely dry, despite the heavy rain. There were at least a dozen people left in the mall as they stumbled around in the dark. Each of them saw the robed figure who beckoned them to follow.
It gathered them in the main food court, people of different walks of life, some knew each other, most only by face. The youngest was 18, the oldest was 60.
"You are my players..." the figure told each of them in a ghastly voice, their gender was indiscernible. It reached out and each persons chests glowed with a bright light. "You are unshackled from those bodies and are able to switch places not only with each other, but with others as well." No one reacted as they took the information in. They were still enthralled by the shadowy figure.
"Players, you will use this gift to play a game. Those who refuse to participate..." It reached its hand and pulled forward. A ball of energy left each body. It turned its wrist, rotating the balls so they faced the body they just came out from. Even though they were enthralled, they still had life in them. Without their souls, they were completely void. The figured flicked its hand forward and each ball reentered the proper body. "You will be at my mercy and I will chose a body for you, if I chose a body at all."
"You have twenty-four hours from midnight to play the first round. As for the game itself..."
