Chapter #7

Preschooler and Pichu

    by: irven Author IconMail Icon
After walking for a bit, Callie stopped. You saw the reason why. Further up the road, there was a young blonde girl who looked like a preschooler. She had a backpack and a Buneary plushie, and she was holding a Poke Ball in one hand. A female Pichu was running around in front of her, and the two were laughing together.

“There’s a trainer up ahead,” you muttered, talking quietly into the schoolgirl’s ear.

“I know,” she said, glancing at you. “Are we gonna have to fight her?”

“Probably. Like most trainers, she’ll probably force you to fight when you get closer.”

“But Fletchling is knocked out. She’s my only Pokemon! How can I fight if—”

Callie was interrupted by a girl’s voice shouting, “HEY!”

You and Callie looked to see the preschooler running towards you, with the Pichu beside her. “Hi, my name’s Ella!” she said excitedly. “Are you a trainer? Let’s fight!”

Before Callie could say anything, the kid gasped and stopped running. She pointed at you on Callie’s shoulder, and asked, “What’s that?”

Callie gulped, but you just sighed. She really should have hidden you in her backpack, but now it was too late.

“I’m a person,” you shouted at the younger girl, so your tiny voice could reach her. “Some Pokemon made me shrink. This girl’s helping me out.”

The little girl’s eyes sparkled, and she grinned widely. “Wow! Cool! I wanna shrink too! Sounds like fun!”

“It’s not fun,” you said bluntly. “Now, can you please step aside and let us go to that town over there?”

“Nope! You two looked at me, so we gotta fight! That’s the rules, right?”

“Well, sorry about that,” Callie said. “I don’t have any Pokemon. I can’t fight you.”

The kid looked sad. But then she perked up and pointed at you again. “What about you, mister?” she asked. “You got Pokemon?”

“Yeah,” you said.

“Then I’ll fight you!” Ella said.

“Wait, that’s not a good idea,” you said quickly. “They’re tiny too.”

“Cool!” the girl shouted, hopping up and down excitedly. “Then I’m gonna get to fight a tiny Pokemon! I’ve never done that before!”

“H-hold on!” you shouted, but Callie glanced over at you and shook her head.

“I think it’s okay,” she said. “Your Pokemon are tough, right? They can handle this kid’s Pichu. Unless you’re too scared of a little mouse,” she added with a smirk.

You considered arguing with her, but you changed your mind. This kid seemed intent on fighting you, and she wasn’t interested in letting you get away. So you needed to fight her Pichu to make her leave.

“Fine,” you groaned. “I’ll send out a Pokemon. I’ll tell you the orders, Callie, and you relay them to my Pokemon. My voice might not reach them from up here on your shoulder.”

Callie nodded and faced the preschooler and her Pichu. You glanced at your belt and wondered which Pokemon to send out. It had to be something strong against an Electric-type like Pichu...
