Chapter #6

A Quick Rescue by the Young Musketeer

“What... just happened?” You groaned, sitting down.

That was certainly unexpected. You never thought you’d meet the legendary Mew in your life! Of course, you also never thought that Mew would shrink you and abandon you in the wild. If that was the price to pay for meeting Mew, it didn’t seem worth it right now.

“Maybe this is why so few people say they’ve seen Mew.” You thought, smiling a bit at the idea.

Shaking your head, you focus on the matter at hand. You had to figure out what you were going to do next. You weren’t a Pokemon trainer, so you didn’t have any partner to go find. Fortunately the Pokemon around Icirrus City were mostly docile. Probably because the gym leader, Brycen, kept everything nice and peaceful. So at least you won’t have to worry about aggressive wild Pokemon.

Of course, that didn’t mean you were safe from danger. Right now, you were tucked away in a nice dry area of forest. But you definitely remember the massive bog that surrounded Icirrus City. That thing was already dangerous and a pain to get through at normal size. At your current size, you’d probably just drown.

But you had to go and risk it. Once you got to town, you could get someone’s attention and they could take you to Brycen. You doubted he could fix you, or knew anyone who could, but he’d at least be able to arrange for you to stay somewhere. Maybe get you someone to guard you too.

But that bog was so massive and the city was already far away when you were normal size. What took you a day or two before would likely take you weeks now. You were well stocked for a long trip, but that was for normal size you. You couldn’t even see your bag now; Mew probably took it. And even if you could find it, you had no way to carry any of the massive supplies inside.

Could you even survive a trip through that bog?

You scratched your head contemplatively. Your only options really were to stay here and wait for help or risk the trip. If you could find your bag, you’d have plenty of supplies to wait here, but if you couldn’t then you’d have to scrounge stuff together and survive off the land. And there was no guarantee that help would come, or even notice you.

You had to think this through carefully…

As you sat there and debated, you thought that you could feel or hear something. At first you ignored it, but the thought kept creeping into your mind. The sensation felt so faint, but it felt so real. If you focused hard on it, it almost felt like... movement. Like something was coming to-

You instantly jumped to your feet when something massive slammed down in front of you! The object appeared to hit the ground hard, but it barely made a sound. And the grass beneath it didn’t get trampled either. It simply bent, sort of conformed to the shape of the object. It was like it was like the thing wasn’t even there!

Mostly recovered from the shock, you steady your breath and take a good look at what landed in front of you. It was… a massive blue hoof! Thinking you knew what it belonged to, you craned your neck to look up.

Sure enough, it was the legendary Pokemon Keldeo!

You couldn’t believe your eyes! You were seeing another legendary, just moments after the first one shrunk you! Not to mention, Keldeo was one that you were much more familiar with. You grew up hearing stories about Keldeo and his teachers. Most of the stories focused on Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion; but you always liked Keldeo the best. He was a trooper who worked hard to become even greater and more heroic than his teachers.

You couldn’t have stumbled into better help! All you had to do was get his attention and you’d be set. Just had to figure out how you would get his attention.

It turned out, though, that you didn’t have to. Keldeo was already scanning the ground and, before you even tried to get his attention, his eyes locked onto you. The determined look on his face morphed into a reassuring smile as your gazes met. Stepping back a little, he made enough room between you two so that he could settle down onto his front legs.

You knew that you were in a precarious situation, but you were honestly ecstatic right now. Keldeo was pretty much your favorite legendary Pokémon! And he was here, right in front of you! If you were normal size, you’d probably have gone crazy petting his mane or something. Right now, all you could do was give an admiring stare to the giant, which made him blush a little when he noticed.

But the slight embarrassment didn’t stop him from doing what he came here for.

“I knew I sensed someone in trouble nearby. You don’t have to worry anymore, I’m here to help!” He reassured you in a telepathic… feminine voice.

Wait a minute.

“Whoa! Are you a girl!?” You instinctively blurted out, a lot less tactfully than you would have liked.

Keldeo’s reassuring smile shrank into a neutral expression and she let loose a long sigh.

“Why does every human ask me that?” She rolled her eyes dismissively. “I mean, honestly, what’s so weird about me being a girl?”

You knew that it was a rhetorical question, but you figured you had to say something.

“Th-there’s nothing weird about you being a girl!” You said hastily, “It’s just that… all the stories I was told about you said that you were a boy.”

“I hear that a lot too.” She noted a bit sourly, “But why do all the stories say I’m a boy? Girls can want to be brave heroes too. ...Is it because a lot of me is blue?”

“Uh- probably?”

“Virizion never has this problem. Maybe I should ask her for tips. I shouldn’t really care about this, but-”

“I-I’m sorry if I offended you!” You interrupted Keldeo. “You’re like my favorite legendary Pokémon, so I really hope I didn’t make you angry!”

Hearing your apology made Keldeo smile and chuckle.

“Don’t worry about it. Like I said, I hear it a lot. You don’t have to lie about me being your favorite legendary.”

“It’s not a lie though. You really are awesome! The way you train under three other legendaries, trying to become stronger and more heroic than them is so cool! You’re inspiring!”

Keldeo just chuckled dismissively. “Wow, you’re really laying it on thick. But I appreciate the compliments.”

You kind of wanted to convince the legendary that she really was your favorite, just to show how much you admired her, but decided to drop it for now. If she was here to help you, then you’d have plenty of time to sing her praises later.

“So are you here to help me?”

Keldeo looked at you with a puzzled expression and tilted head.

“Um, yeah. I just told you that I sensed you needed help.”

Crap, you were looking like a dork in front of your favorite legendary! It hardly mattered, but the idea upset you. You just had to try and play it cool right now.

“R-right. I’m just really overwhelmed right now. I never thought I’d meet you. And if I did, I never thought I’d be smaller than your hooves.”

“Yes, I imagine that being so small is quite overwhelming.” Keldeo noted. “But do not fear. Your gallant musketeer is here to keep you safe and near.” She said proudly.

Now it was your turn to chuckle.

“Uh… what’s up with the rhyming?”

“It’s just… something I thought I’d try.” Keldeo sounded a bit embarrassed. “Maybe make it a catch phrase or something? Ah-I don’t know, still working on it.”

Hearing that made you smile. It really made her sound like the inexperienced rookie she apparently was. One thing about her was obvious, she was seriously eager to help people. She had come to your help some quickly, it was almost like you had never been left alone!

“So what’s the plan?”

Hearing your simple question, Keldeo giggled and said nothing. You waited patiently for her to say something, but she never did. You just stared and waited for her to tell you her plan. After some more silence, Keldeo began to silently avoid your gaze. Something was clearly wrong.

“Keldeo?”

The giantess chuckled nervously before looking at you again.

“Well…”
