This choice: "Level 1 Personality Manipulation" • Go Back...Chapter #4"Level 1 Personality Manipulation" by: RoyalJelly Lindsay wasn't an idiot; she knew that a twenty-foot tall woman was a risk to her success in the games, not to mention her life. This was a power she needed to keep on a tight leash. She selected "Level 1 Personality Manipulation." A cheerful series of blips emanated from the gun as a new message appeared on screen.
"Congratulations! You were smart enough to not let a woman who can crush you with one hand have totally free will! Welcome to the world of Level 1 Personality Manipulation. Here's how your new power works:
1. Personality traits can be selected by voice-control of the gun's menu, and are represented on a 1-10 scale. For your benefit, a brief explanation follows each level!
2. At level 1, you can change a personality trait in your target by 1 unit every hour.
3. You can make up to 2 changes to each trait, allowing you to reverse a prior change or enhance it further. There are no take-backs following this, so be careful! You can, however, change as many unique traits as you want!
4. You gain 1 XP per change away from your target's original personality. Reversing a prior change will have no effect on your XP total.
Have fun!"
Lindsay gave a sideways nod. It wasn't quite what she wanted, but it would do for now.
"Obedience to me," she whispered, pointing the gun at Allison. Her Amazonian assistant was staring at her own face in the glass door; Allison's head must have been the size of a small dining table at this point. The gun's menu loaded for half a second, then revealed a sliding scale.
"Current Level: 5," read the screen. "Explanation: Target willingly obeys you because you're her boss and have a forceful personality. Changes in power dynamic may reduce obedience."
Lindsay was afraid of that. "Increase by one point."
"Level 6 Explanation: Target would obey you due to deference to prior power dynamic. Changes in power dynamic will not affect obedience, provided that you treat your target with respect."
Lindsay grunted. Respect wasn't something she was good at, but she could make another change later.
"Hey, Allison! Turn around for me, would you?"
With a faint growl, Allison drew herself to her full height, elevating the top of her head to be level with the house's roof, then turned around. Her hands had crushed gaps in the handrails on the balcony and left cracks in the marble. "You know, Lindsay," she began, "I really think we need to talk about our little arrangement--"
Lindsay pulled the trigger; a barely-visible beam that looked like white noise soaked over Allison. The giantess shook her head for a second, before slumping back into her original, acquiescing pose.
"Sorry," she muttered, her gaze darting between the ground and Lindsay. "Had a bit of a head-rush there. I'm not quite used to this body yet."
Lindsay was about to say something snarky, but thought better of it. "It's alright, Allison, this is a big day for the both of us. I just wanted to make sure you'd still be..." she trailed off. "My right-hand woman?"
Allison perked up slightly. "Oh, definitely! This is actually pretty fun. I think I can see into town from up here!"
"Wonderful," said Lindsay. "You'll make an excellent mobile watch-tower. Now, I think I'm gonna need a bit more time before I take you for a test-drive." She laughed, in spite of herself. Allison tried to follow suit, but was obviously masking a hurt expression. Lindsay saw this and calmed down; better not push her too far just yet. "So I think it'd be for the best that we stay here and find a way to occupy our time." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
