Here are some more suggestions for characters in this parallel universe:

Leah, 15 years old - Leah is the descendant of a great sage. Her family is familliar for bringing out great magicians. So, her parents had high expectations on Leah and forced her to magical training since she was 4 years old. Because of this hard training Leah acquired high skills as a magician but lost every joy and excitement about magic. The story starts with Leah´s first day at the National Magic High-School, which is located in New-York. Leah passed the entrance exam with top marks for sure even if she had now interest in being at this school. What will happen with Leah during her time at high-school? Just follow the story to find out about.

Charles, 20 years old - Charles lives in an outer district of London, which is the capial of the Great Magical Empire of England. This empire controls nearly 30 percent of the earth´s landmass. So, the best magicians from all over the world meet in this city for studying and developing magic. Magic capibality is very important in this empire. The social position depends on the individual magic strength. Even the postion of the emperor depends on how strong a magician is. This position won´t be inherited. After a emperor died there is a tournament to find out, who is the strongest magician in the whole empire. The winner of tournament will be the emperor until he dies then. Because of this social system the determination of a person´s magical power is very important. This determination is done at the age of 4. Depending on the result the school a child will visit is determined. Children with a low level will join the normal schools. These low-level magicians make up the majority of the population - about 77 %. They get a minimum of education only and will be normal workers as they reach the age of an adult. The children with a higher level - these are about 20 % of the population - are allowed to visit special magic schools with better education. These people will have postions just like managers or foremen once they grow up. The last 3 % of the population are the prodigies with outstanding powers. These children will be sperated from the rest once their potential was detected and brought to the National Academy. This academy is the best school in the entire world and provides with their top teachers from every part of the empire the best education. These prodigies will be the ruling caste as they are old enough. They can be teachers or professors at university also. All past emperors visited the National Academy in their youth. Charles is one of the low-level magicians. In the determination test at the age of four he only reached 10 points. For comparism the average count of a low-level magician is about 70 to 90 points. Even in this caste Charles is a very weak magician. Because of this he got teased and excluded during his whole time at school. Today Charles works as a sewer cleaner, which is a ridiculed and poorly paid job. Some day his magical power increases by leaps and bounds. Will this change his monotonous life?
