Chapter #3

an underground school of magic

    by: Unknown
Black dragons (also known as skull dragons) are the most vile tempered and cruel of all chromatic dragons, They are despised and feared even by other monsters, so much so that even natural enemies among monsters will band together to kill a black dragon, if the lair of one is discovered.

The reason that all the other monsters want to see the race of black dragons go extinct is a prophesy that says a human mage trained by a black dragon will be the one to drive monsters out of the human world and back to their own realms of existence.

You might think that another way to circumvent the prophesy is to simply kill all the human mages. There were a number of reasons why this wasn't practical. First, there was no telling which humans might become mages, And normal humans served several functions for normal monsters: pets, toys, snacks...the list was endless.

Then there was the part of the prophecy that suggested that an undefined minimum number of human mages had to be out in the world to allow monsters to remain in it.

But perhaps the best reason why monsters went after black dragons rather than human mages was that, on average, black dragons were not as deadly as human mages.

At the moment, everyone thought the prophesy could not be fulfilled, as the last black dragon had been killed more than half a century ago.

Everyone was wrong.

His name was Sijjop, and in all the history of his race, he was the most long-lived of black dragons, as well as the most powerful and most learned. And his hatred for all other monsters for the destruction they had brought on to his race was what kept him alive. Sijjop hoped for nothing more than that one of his students would fulfill the prophesy.

At present, SIjjop had five students. There was James, of course. Then there was David and Aliyah Washington, eighteen year old brother/sister fraternal twins who came from a human enclave that used swords, sorcery and semi-automatic weapons to keep monsters from preying on them. Next there was Raina Aitamai, a 17 year old girl who discovered the privileged life she was leading was so she could be a virgin sacrifice to the local dragon lord on her 18th birthday, Finally, there was Jake Leblanc, a Cajun teenager whose parents wanted him to become something more that a swamp warlock.

At this point, which students POV shall we follow?
