Jaune looked up at Blake after he wrote that sentence down and nothing seemed to be different. The question was how to figure out if Blake was actually his girlfriend now. If he walked up and asked her directly, that was sure to be awkward and make her hate him if she wasn’t. Best bet was just to go over there and talk a bit, maybe pretend he had a question on his essay. Blake was smart and could help him. Gathering his nerve, he walked over to her with two books and notebook in hand.
“Hey, Blake.” He greeted her.
“Jaune.” She looked up and smiled. That was a good sign, it was better than her typical neutral one. “Did you find the book you were looking for?”
“Yeah,” Jaune replied. “Someone put it in the wrong spot.” He put the books down on the table. “Someone put it in the wrong spot and took forever to locate it.”
She clicked her tongue.
“People keep taking books down and putting them back in different spots,” Blake said. “Librarians can only do so much.”
“Now I have to actually find the section I’m looking for to finish Oobleck’s essay.” Jaune told her. “That’s sure to be fun.”
“History can be dry at some points,” Blake admitted. “But there is a lot of important information too. If you don’t learn from the mistakes of the past, you will keep making them.”
Then, to Jaune’s shock, she gestured to the beanbag right next to her.
“I might be able to help and we can get your essay finished.” Blake offered.
“Y-yeah.” Jaune stammered, plopping down in the beanbag next to her. He opened the book and compared the table of contents with the notes he had written in his notebook about what he needed to research. “Well, there’s an entire chapter devoted to General Lang against the Grimm forces at Rassen Pass.”
“He was known for being one of the greatest generals against the Grimm threat.” Blake told him. “if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to help if I can.”
“Thanks.” Jaune told her and she smiled again. Man, she’s pretty when she smiles. She needs to do it more.
What happened next nearly made Jaune fall off the beanbag.
Blake adjusted her position and leaned up against him.
Jaune had seen this happen with one of his older sisters once and reacted by instinct. While the book was in his right hand, he lifted his left arm and put it around her shoulders. This seemed to be the right move as Blake rested her head against his shoulder and continued to read. Jaune could only gape at the situation.
