Chapter #5

Morning Sickness

He woke up to the sound of someone retching. Worried, he looked outside of his tent, set up in a glade he and his team had found not far from the cabin that was his primary home, and saw his Salazzle hunched over, looking as if she'd just thrown up, his Gardevoir gently patting her back. His other Pokemon were nearby, looking concerned for their teammate. After a moment, Salazzle stood up, wiping her muzzle and looking at the others gratefully. She then noticed Calen, and yipped, looking away in embarrassment.

"What's wrong?" he asked. "Are you okay?"

Salazzle looked to Gardevoir, who nodded and linked their minds, translating Salazzle's language into something Calen could understand.

"I'm okay," Salazzle said. "I've just been sick in the mornings the past month. I... usually try to take care of any 'issues' before you notice... Usually by having me or the girls wear you out enough that you sleep late." She grinned cheekily at that, the other Pokemon giggling.

Calen checked the time and chuckled. "Well, you're all certainly good at that," he said. "Still, that can't be healthy..."

"I'm fine, really," Salazzle insisted, nuzzling him.

Calen thought for a moment. "For my own peace of mind, let's get you checked out at a Pokemon center," he said. "Okay? I just want to be sure you're all right."

Salazzle frowned, but nodded. "Okay, if it'll make you feel better..." she said. "But I have been getting better faster each time."

Calen nodded, gently stroking her head and kissing her on the muzzle. Gardevoir broke the connection and balled everyone, packing up and heading into town.

The Nurse Joy running the Pokemon center smiled when she saw him. "I know you. You're that wilderness survival guy," she said.

Calen grinned. "That's me. Never been much for cities, not when I have nature on hand," he said.

Nurse Joy giggled. "You're certainly braver than I am," she said. "I'd be worried about wild Pokemon."

"I've got a good team," Calen said confidently. "Speaking of which, my Salazzle has been feeling sickly in the mornings for the past few weeks. I only found out about it today, as the group had been hiding it from me so as not to let me worry."

"Odd..." Nurse Joy frowned, and accepted Salazzle's Pokeball when offered. "But you brought her in right away when you did find out, so I do appreciate that." She let her out of the Pokeball.

Salazzle looked around curiously. "Sala?" she asked.

"I just need you to come with me so we can run some tests," Nurse Joy said, smiling pleasantly. "Would you be willing to do that?"

Salazzle glanced at Calen, who nodded. Salazzle nodded as well. "Salazz," she said amiably, letting the pleased Nurse Joy lead her away, asking Calen to wait in the main room. He took the chance to use the bathrooms and showers the Center provided for traveling Tamers. He liked nature, but appreciated modern amenities, which is why his cabin, his primary home, had indoor plumbing. (Set up himself so as not to disturb nature by having city water brought out there.)

Grabbing a breakfast burrito for himself and his teammates, they all waited for the Nurse to complete her examination. After a while, the Nurse came out with a visibly shaken-looking Salazzle.

"Well, the good news is that its nothing serious, and the morning sickness should pass eventually," the Nurse Joy said.

Calen nodded, waiting for the other shoe to drop. "What's the bad news?"

"She's pregnant," the Nurse Joy said.

Calen's entire team facefaulted. "Ah... what?" Calen asked.

"She's pregnant," the Nurse Joy repeated.

"That's... interesting!" Calen said, sweating nervously. Immediately, all of his Pokemon put hands/paws/wings to their own stomachs, wondering if they were pregnant as well. "Um... how far along is she?"

"A little over a month," Nurse Joy said. "Have you been letting her breed with wild Pokemon?"

"...Yes?" Calen tried, unable to keep his eyes from shifting back and forth.
