This choice: A storage and preservation device... • Go Back... "Basically, it's a self-sustaining storage enhancer!" Tails explained, smiling as he held up the device. It was a small, black sphere, with a slight glow to it. "It uses those artificial Phantom Ruby shards we took from Dr. Eggman's lab to create a field that perfectly preserves whatever's meant to be stored inside it for... well, ever. All you have to do is put the device in a storage container. It will automatically calibrate to it."
"Seriously?" Sonic asked, smiling. "How's that work?"
"That's the beauty of it. It works by tapping into the energy of what's being stored and using it to empower the storage container and keep it running, while also keeping it from experiencing wear and tear. The container, enhanced by the device, then produces an energy field that keeps whatever's inside it in a field of stasis that will last as long as the container does. Which, thanks to the energy recycling, will be pretty much forever."
"I think I get it," Sonic said, looking thoughtful for a moment. "Basically I put that thing in a fridge, and then I could keep a leftover chilidog in there for years, and it'd still be fresh and delicious when I pulled it out?"
"That's actually a perfect example!" Tails said, smiling. "The device would use the energy of the food items in the fridge to empower it, and generate a stasis field to keep the food fresh. I'm working on a version that will work with stored inanimate objects."
Sonic quirked an eyebrow. "It only works with food, then?"
"Organics in general," Tails clarified. "The device basically recycles bioenergy in and out of something endlessly. I've actually been working on something similar for a while, but until I added the Phantom Ruby shard, it made the stored material actually degrade in quality. Now, though? Perfect cycling and perfect preservation."
"Neat!" Sonic said, grinning.
Tails smiled. "But that's not all - it also increases the internal storage capacity of the object by a millionfold, AND makes the entrance to the container capable of stretching to fit." He grinned excitedly. "Think of the benefit to food banks! To hospitals! Heck, to waste disposal! You could put tons of organic waste in easy storage containers and keep the land beautiful! It wouldn't rot, sure, but that's just another project!"
Sonic patted his genius friend on the back. "Heckuva job, pal. Why don't I treat you to a chilidog?" he said.
"Can I have pizza instead?" Tails asked, grinning sheepishly. "I'm kinda tired of chilidogs..."
"Blasphemer," Sonic teased. "Yeah, sure, we can get pizza."
"Thanks, Sonic," Tails said, setting the device down on a tray.
"...With chilidog sauce on it," Sonic added, smirking.
Tails laughed, and the two dashed off. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
