Chapter #4

Swap with a fictional character in your room

Ultimately, you decide to just stick with swapping with things in your own room. As much as there were good choices in other rooms, Stella and Hannah were both in their rooms, leaving you with little chance to get more than a single swap in, and though your parents' bedroom was currently empty, you didn't want to risk having your parents walking in on you rummaging around their closet. That didn't matter too much though, as you were still excited to see how exactly the remote would work with fictional characters.

After taking a moment to think about what to switch with, you take a seat and boot up a game; Super Smash Bros. Assuming the remote worked on fictional characters, it seemed like the optimal choice to experiment with, considering how many characters were in it. Eager to try it out, you skip through the intro cutscene and practically mash through the menus so you can get to the actual gameplay and target someone. Seeing as you didn't even know if the remote would work on games like this, you don't bother thinking about which character you wanted to swap with just yet, and just select Random for both yourself and the computer-controlled opponent. Your anticipation builds as you wait for the game to load.

"Huh," you mumbled to yourself as you finally see who the game picked out. You were supposed to be playing as Princess Peach, and in quite the coincidence, your opponent was Bowser, both characters from the Mario series. They wouldn't exactly have been your first choice, what with Peach being super girly and Bower not even being human, but you suppose you couldn't exactly complain. You were the one who chose random after all. As the match starts up, revealing the stage to be the roof of Peach's castle, you wait for the countdown to end and the match to start, but instead of gripping the controller and getting ready to fight, you press the button on the remote to free time.

The anticipation builds further as you look at your two potential targets, deciding which to point at. You ultimately decide to choose Peach. Though you knew the remote worked on animals, nothing like Bowser existed in real life. If the manual was right, everyone would just consider everything normal, but something still seemed like it would be strange becoming a giant turtle monster in real life. Peach may have been a girly cartoon princess, but she was at least human. It shouldn't raise too many eyebrows, at least you hoped. Of course, that was assuming the remote would even let you target Peach. She was just a character on a screen, after all. Would the remote consider her a viable target, or did you need to swap with something in real life for it to work? There was only one way to find out. You raise your hand, and point at where Peach was standing on the screen, waiting to see how the remote would react.
