One week later, Judy had settled into her new position at the front desk quite comfortably. She had learned how to manage the phone lines, schedule appointments, and keep track of visitors coming in and out of the precinct. But most importantly, she had discovered a treasure trove of snacks and treats hidden in Clawhauser's desk and locker.
Every day, she would indulge herself in a new sugary delight: chocolate bars, candy, cookies, and of course, the famous doughnuts. She loved the rush of sugar and the feeling of her belly expanding with each bite. It was a guilty pleasure that she couldn't resist.
But even as those short days had passed, Judy started to notice the consequences of her snacking habits. Her once toned body was softened a bit, her fur becoming fluffier and her cheeks just a little rounder. She didn't mind it at first, but she noticed that she was losing her agility and speed as well, which might be a problem for a police officer working the street.
On the last day of the week before Clawhauser's return, as Judy was munching on a bag of gummy bears, Chief Bogo approached her with a characteristically irritated look on his face.
"Hopps! Apparently Clawhauser managed to contract some food-borne illness while on vacation – no surprises there – and is now sick, and we don't know when he's going to be back. So, you'll need to keep covering his desk for the foreseeable future."
Judy tried to suppress the smile that was threatening to break out on her face. "Oh no, Chief. Does that mean I'll have to stay here at the front desk even longer?" she said, trying to sound disappointed.
Bogo raised an eyebrow at her. "Yes, it does. Clawhauser's illness is not something to be taken lightly, Hopps."
Judy sighed dramatically. "I understand, Chief. I'll do my best to keep things running smoothly."
"That's what I want to hear," Bogo said, nodding. "Now, get back to work."
Judy watched as Bogo walked away, a small smile playing on her lips. She didn't really mind staying at the front desk at this point; in fact, she was secretly enjoying it. But she knew she had to keep up appearances and show that she was taking her job seriously. With a deep breath, she turned back to her desk and got back to work.
As soon as Bogo was out of sight, however, Judy resumed her snacking, savoring each and every extra morsel she could consume now that she had an extended stay at the front desk...
