The Battle of Kings Landing raged below Daenerys as she soared through the air on the back her largest dragon, Drogon. The Battle had been going in their favour until the one of her dragons, Viserion had been grounded by a scorpion atop the city ramparts and overwhelmed. The Dothraki, seeing one of the mighty beasts slain lost morale and it showed in the way the fought. Still, Drogon and Rhaegal remained and the battle was not over yet. As much as Dany wanted to mourn the death of one of her children, it would only achieve her defeat if she lost focus now.
Daenerys had been reckless. After her victory against the Lannister convoy in the Reach, she had expected her siege to be easily won. She was wrong. The Lannister force in the city was strong, strong and confident enough to meet the Targaryen host out on the field of battle instead of holding the walls of the city. This confused Daenerys and her commanders but not enough to worry them. Still, she should've listened to the Stark lord and enlisted their support. She should've waited for the unsullied to arrive from Casterly Rock. Then the doubts she was facing now would not be so much of an issue. Instead she'd charged in like a child...
Dany turned Drogon preparing to go in for another attack. The mighty beast swooped downwards toward the ground ready to breath fire on the enemy below. Seconds before Drogon let loose though, something caught Danys eye... A slight shimmer on the ground below leading to a large bulk of her force where the shimmer seemed to surround the Dothraki. "Wildfire..." Daenaerys thought to herself as dread filled her and caused her stomach to turn. She tried her hardest to stop Drogon but it was no use. The dragon breathed fire on the Lannister host and it certainly did its job but an even bigger explosion lit up on the ground as flames spread towards the Dothraki riders. They had no time to react and their unarmoured flesh went up in flames instantly. Daenaerys had wiped out a large portion of her own forces...
She tried to call for regroup but the Dothraki were in a frenzy of fear. Not knowing this at the time but to them it had looked like Drogon had breathed fire on them instead of the enemy and they turned and ran in an attempt to escape what they thought was a rogue dragon.
The Lannister soldiers below shouted in triumph as to them, it certainly looked like victory at the time.
