Cleaning the temple was a daily duty that made you actually wish you were in charge of cleaning your house.
The temple was beautiful and traditional, occupying a quarter of a block. That alone made using a broom a pain in the ass.
And while your family weren't the only ones keeping it clean and renovating whatever part broke down with time, your mom sure seem fixated in having a Wang do most of the chores.
Especially cleaning the tanuki statues adorning the front garden.
You couldn't exactly blame her devotion to the temple (not when she carried clear proof that tanuki spirits were not just a legend), but you could complain about your workload. In your head.
The Wang Matron all but demanded respect and obedience when working, and you had quickly learned to keep your mouth closes and do whatever was required of you.
You had learned a quick way to evade her nagging and demands when the temple was particularly dirty: being proactive. Sometimes you could simply spend a day calmly cleaning the statues and she's commend you for being both respectful and thorough.
Still, you tried to avoid that. Sometimes you'd swear you could hear giggles when removing the dirt from them.
Like right now.Though the faint echoes of a laugh you couldn't fins the origin of fades as you hear someone approach.
