A few days later, Rajah was walking with Crystal, on the beach, water from the ocean lapping at their feet.
"This feels nice," she said. "Would be nice if the dryer stuff wasn't so hot."
Rajah chuckled. "Not to me," he said, as he held her sandals, and picnic basket. "The soles of my feet are adapted for such terrain, although most value their comfort, and tend to put something on them these days."
"So, besides here, just where have you been?" Crystal asked.
"Oh, been to most countries, sometimes for business, sometimes for travel," said Rajah. "India was lovely, same with China, and certain parts of Russia. Then there was the Amazon - that too was nice. Did plenty of hunting there, in Africa, and Asia, or other places where a 'Big Cat' could go unnoticed, especially with a shift of my fur patterns to look like a native cat."
"So, ever eat a human?" Crystal asked.
"In what way?" Rajah asked.
"What do you mean?" Crystal asked.
Rajah chuckled. "I could eat you the hard, and painful way, which would kill you, or I could do things the gentle way, and swallow you whole, enjoy you for a while, before letting you out, one way, or the other. I can do the same with my anus, or my penis. In either of those last few cases, you would be safe, and unharmed."
"Good to know," said Crystal. "So, how about the safe way?"
"A few humans, and a number of monsters," said Rajah.
"And the not safe way?" Crystal asked, cautiously.
"Only one, in a safari park in Africa, but they were someone that deserved to die anyways," said Rajah. "They'd killed this pair of tourists, a mother and father, and were about to do terrible things to the teenage daughter when I showed up, looking like a lion. My nose told me enough. Well, I pounced upon them, and I dealt with them like a lion would. I then walked away, waited half an hour, shifted into a human form, looking like a ranger, walked back, and acted like I'd just come across them for the first time. She was rather happy to see me. Personally, I just wish that I'd been there sooner - might have saved her folks."
"You saved her though, right?" Crystal asked.
Rajah nodded, and looked away. "I was merely there to hunt a gazelle, or two, not a human. I'd come upon the scene - I could smell her fear, the blood, his lust, the gunpowder. This rage came upon me - I attacked. He shot me, I bit his throat. I drank his blood. I ate him, like a wild animal would." He looked at Crystal. "When I came to my senses, she was looking at me, in fear, as if I was something not to be trusted. When I came back, looking like a human, the way she talked, it was like she didn't know which was the bigger danger.... not that I blame her."
"That's some story," said Crystal. "I wonder if it was in the news."
"Possible," said Rajah. "I haven't met up with her since I dropped her off at the ranger station."
"Do you want to try to get a hold of her?" Crystal asked.
"Tempting, but what do you say to someone that saw you kill the one that killed their parents?" Rajah asked.
"Good point," said Crystal.
They soon came to an empty spot.
"Looks like a nice place to relax," said Rajah.
"And plenty of privacy for some fun," said Crystal.
"What do you have in mind?" Rajah asked.
Crystal grinned.
