"Uh, I actually need to head back to my place! Got loads to unpack!"
The dog had rolled up a slice of pizza like a burrito and bit into it. Drops of grease landed on his absurdly massive belly. "Alright! Well, thanks for dropping by! Don't be a stranger!"
Evan was back in the hallway ready to get into his place when he saw Adam, the obese otter delivery boy, waddling towards the elevator. The svelte lion easily caught up with him. "Uh, hey, Adam?"
The otter turned around, his gut wobbled as he moved. "Yeah?"
"Have you, uh, been delivering to Derrick for a while?"
"Yep. Pretty much since the day I started at Purgatory," the otter said.
"Has he was been that, um, big?" Evan asked.
"Nah, he used to be a fair bit smaller. When I first started delivering to his place, Derrick was still moving around. I remember dropping off his order the day they were widening out his front door. But he's gotten super big recently. I haven't seen him out of that bed in months."
"Months? Then how does he, you know, use the bathroom and stuff like that?" Evan asked curiously.
"Derrick can still move. It just takes him a while to get from Point A to Point B. Most of the time, he's just sitting on his butt in bed stuffing himself."
"Does he work? I mean, he has to do something if he's buying pizza everyday."
"Look, mister, I can't stay here all day talking with you. I'm on the clock. So if you got questions about Derrick, you might just want to ask him yourself." The otter then turned back and continued his way back to the elevator.
Back in his apartment, Evan sat on his couch still fascinated by Derrick's sheer size. Of course, the lion had seen a fat fur or two back in Bastion. But the big dog easily outweighed them all by hundreds of pounds. How could a fur let themselves get that big? And why was Derrick still stuffing himself with so many pizzas everyday? He should be focusing on slimming down! Evan had so many questions. Perhaps Adam was right. If the lion was so obsessed with the dog's obesity, he should just talk to Derrick himself. Yet he felt odd about the prospect of talking about another fur's super heavyweight status. Maybe he could ask around, see if anyone knew anything about Derrick. Or, if Evan spent more time with the big dog, the facts would come out eventually.
