A Mysterious House in the Desert

My hand caresses the knob; the door swings open of its own accord to show nothing, an endless white void of nothing.

Warily I step through the doorway, the light abruptly intensifies to a degree which blinds me completely.

This strength of the light hurts my eyes; I clench my lids as tightly as I can although the extreme luminescence still permeates my thin skin-flaps.

Darkness falls; my eyes open to see a vast desert of ivory-white that stretches out in all directions.

I look down, I'm only wearing torn hessian rags.

The powdery sand feels smooth under my bare soles.

I walk blindly for what only feels like a few minutes before I set my sights upon a large brick mansion in the distance.

The lights are on, human-shaped silhouettes pass by the windows.

If this house were anywhere else, I would've thought that it was marvelous, right now though, something about it seemed kind of off.

The closer I get, the dimmer the lights grow, and the more the silhouettes fade into nothingness.

I stop just shy of the front steps.
