This choice: Sarah manage to break free • Go Back...Chapter #6Sarah is back by: Elrick ![Author Icon](https://images.Writing.Com/imgs/writing.com/writers/costumicons/ps-icon-regular-10.gif) When Sarah woke the next morning, her head was pounding. She blinked groggily, unsure if she was even in her own body anymore. The events of the previous night came flooding back to her—Tammy had possessed her, using her body to drink, smoke, and… other things Sarah didn’t even want to think about.
But something felt different now. First, this wasn’t her home. She was in a dimly lit mobile home, and by the window she could see she was in a trailer park. This must be Tammy’s place, Sarah thought. There was no more fog, no oppressive presence pushing her into the background of her mind. Tammy was gone—for now. Sarah quickly realized why. The amulet!
In a panic, Sarah’s hands flew to her neck, but the chain wasn’t there. Then, with a surge of relief, she spotted it on a nightstand, glinting faintly in the morning light just beside Tammy who was sleeping on the ground. Sarah quickly grabbed the amulet, her hands trembling. The noise from the amulet chain disturbed Tammy’s sleep and her eyes flickered open, groggy from the night. Not wanting to risk being possessed again, Sarah made a decision she hadn’t thought possible the day before.
"I can’t let Tammy keep doing this," Sarah whispered to herself, clutching the amulet tightly. She focused, turning her thoughts toward Tammy’s body—the one she’d watched saunter around town in gaudy clothes and thick makeup so many times. She could feel the amulet respond, its energy twisting around her.
There was a pulse, then a dizzying lurch as her consciousness snapped away from her own body and plunged into Tammy’s.
Suddenly, Sarah was inside Tammy. She gasped, her senses flooded by the jarring contrast of the older woman’s life. Tammy's body felt rougher, heavier, and there was an acrid taste of cigarettes permanently on her tongue. She could feel Tammy’s habits itching at the edges of her mind—the urge to curse, to light up another cigarette, to strut confidently even when there was no one around.
Sarah shuddered, pushing back against the unfamiliar urges. She didn’t want to be like Tammy, but she knew she had no choice. She had to hold on to control. Clutching the amulet even tighter, Sarah made her way out of the trailer, staggering slightly as she adjusted to her new body.
The drive to her apartment, and to her boyfriend John, felt surreal. Everything was too loud, too sharp, and every time Sarah passed a reflective surface, she saw Tammy’s overly made-up face staring back at her. It was unnerving, and she had to keep reminding herself: This is temporary. I’m still me.
