Chapter #5

Mistaken for a doll

"No occupants found."

"Huh?" you mumble. That didn't make sense. You were right here, how could there be no occupants? Perhaps there was a glitch after all, and the house's computer just couldn't detect it. Clearly something must be off with its bio scanners if it couldn't see that you were still in the house.

You decide to try and get to the bottom of this. Exiting your sister's room, you head downstairs. If there was "cosmetic damage" in the living room, then maybe the intruder kicked something that broke the house's bio scanners. You weren't really smart enough to fix it, but maybe you could call your mum and have her walk you through it once you found the problem.

Unfortunately, you didn't even make it to the living room before one of the maid bots found you. You stopped as it stood in the middle of the hallway, blocking your way. Surely this would clear things up. Even if the house's bio scanners failed, the maid bots' wouldn't... you thought so at least. You weren't exactly sure if the maid bots had separate bio scanners, or if they just went by what the house told them.

"Scanning," you heard the bot say. It was clearly scanning you in some way, but you didn't know if it was able to tell you were alive or not. Now you were actually a little worried, and that only worsened once the scan completed. "Object identified as -DOLL-. Returning to baby's room."

"What!?" you exclaim. This was bad. Not only could the maid not tell you were alive, but it seemed to think you were a toy belonging to your baby sisters. Before you can really process that fact and push past the maid to try and rectify this, the maid robot steps towards you and picks you up. "Hey, put me down!" you shout as you struggle against its grasp. Unfortunately, there is little you can do to wriggle out of its robotic grip, and you find yourself being carried right back to the room you'd just left. In hindsight, it made some amount of sense that the bots thought you were a doll. After all, you'd been standing in your younger sister's room when the scan happened, so it probably thought you were an item that belonged in there. Perhaps you were supposed to move so it knew you were alive after all.

Regardless, it was too late for that now, as you find yourself carried back into your sister's room. The maid bot stops in front of a chest that was used to contain your sister's toys. The maid's eyes glow for a moment. "Activating," you hear a quiet voice say from inside the chest. On its own will, the chest opens up, and a pair of robotic arms come out, taking you from the maid. As the maid leaves, you can't help but wonder what's going to happen to your now. You were clearly a human being, not a doll. Would the chest be able to tell that when the rest of the house wouldn't? Or would it just cram you inside like any old toy.
