Chapter #6Rose Princess by: Zone Ruby hit the button on the remote and experienced the world warp around her.
The first thing she realized was that she was sitting at Weiss’s desk instead of her own. It took a moment to realign her senses when instantly moving from one spot to another. Her speed Semblance was similar from someone else’s view, but it was fundamentally different from her side. Weiss’s scroll was in her hand and she had been looking up some information on a line of clothes from some specific designer. Ruby’s eyes traveled downwards and saw she was wearing her clothes again.
Huh? I hit Life Swap, why am I wearing my clothes… Oh, right. I switched our clothes beforehand. Life Swap was supposed to put her in the target’s life. She only kept her body and the clothes would switch. However, their clothes were swapped beforehand, so Ruby was now living as Weiss, without having her clothes. Something felt off about her head. One side was heavier than the other. Ruby looked into a mirror curiously and her mouth fell open.
White hair tied in a ponytail on one side adorned her head.
Our hair switched too?! Ruby thought in shock, immediately glancing over at Weiss. The remote never mentioned that. Maybe it was some kind of indicator lives had been swapped.
Weiss was sitting at Ruby’s desk, hand propping up her head, as she gazed at the book in front of her with a glazed look in her eyes. Everything except her hair was physically the same. Short black hair with red tips, Ruby’s hair, sat atop her head. The biggest difference Ruby observed was Weiss’s posture and mannerisms. Normally prim and proper, Weiss didn’t slouch when studying. She sat up straight and read the material methodically while taking notes. Now, she looked exactly like Ruby did when studying, bored, uninterested, and wanting it to be over.
Ruby couldn’t believe it. Clothes were one thing, that could be explained through teleportation and Weiss pretending not to notice. Lives were another. There had to be a way to test out if Weiss really believed she was her. Ruby had to act like Weiss and talk to her. As she thought about what Weiss would consider important enough to interrupt Ruby studying, she felt something, like a faded memory swimming to the surface. Wanting to understand what this was, Ruby relaxed and let the thoughts flow to the forefront of her mind. Her mouth opened and words she didn’t consciously consider came out.
“Ruby,” Ruby said. “How is the studying going? Do you understand the material?”
“It’s… coming,” Weiss replied, looking up and then collapsing in her chair. “This is so boring. At least some of the previous chapters contain awesome battle scenes and history of weapons. Why should I care about economic and political struggles?”
“Because those shape our very government,” Ruby answered, not sure how she knew. Her brain just did and instinct was telling her what to say. It quickly sunk in that the remote was helping her act like Weiss to fool others. “Hunters and Huntresses need to understand the big picture, not just what Grimm needs killed at one location.”
“I never want to meet a politician,” Weiss muttered and slammed her head on the desk. “Sounds like the boringist job in the world.”
“You would be surprised,” Ruby muttered and memories flickered in her mind like from an old television. They were images of a white haired man talking to people in suits while she stood by his side. Ruby had definitely never done that. I have her memories too? Life Swaps are so thorough. I wonder what else I could do. Wanting the full experience while she could, Ruby clicked the Wardrobe Swap button again. One flash of green light later, she was back to wearing Weiss’s white dress. Now when Ruby looked into the mirror, she saw herself with Weiss’s hair and clothes.
