From seed and ashes

The forest burned. After months of drought the whole thing was a tinder box so every tree and bush was gone. Without tree roots to support them many of undergrounds dens, set and burrows collapsed too. Many animals died most of the rest were homeless. Those that could free did most could not, they were to small, to slow and had no idea where to go.

But life finds a way to rebuild, and if it can't it builds something else instead. What is would build this time would be truly marvellous and enormous.

This time it would start with a single acorn, buried safe below the burn by a squirrel who found far more nuts then it could eat.

Treeish scene felt the heat of the sun and moisture of the first rains. Time to grow.

Roots cracked out seeking water they found it. They also found rich nutrients that ashes of the mother tree were one final and potent gift.

Two leaves reach the surface and unfurled.

From the Rain, Water.
Carbon dioxide from the Wind.
Nutrients from the Earth
Energy from sun's Fire.

It had all it needed to grow and so it did. Soon there were 4 leaves then ten then whole bunch, all of them bigger. It was now 6 inches tall above ground and spread that wide below.

Then a millipede moved in amongst its roots. They roots held its burrow secure. From there is and somewhere safe to sleep after eating mulched up half rotten leaves at the base of abandoned and half collapsed badger den nearby. It was its home.

The tree felt something, it liked having things live amongst it roots. It wanted more. It felt power following into.

The millipede felt safe, something very rare when your very small and made of hundreds tasty tasty of drumsticks.

The tree now had the fifth element, heart and could now transcend.

The tree instantly grew and extra inch gaining dozens of new leaves.
