"This is the head," Dr. Willis explained, pointing at the image on the monitor, "and here is the arm."
She pointed to something rapidly pumping in the chest. "Here's the baby's heart."
Synthia took this all in, looking back and forth from the monitor to her belly.
"Would you like to know if it's a boy or girl? Some mommies like to know that in advance, so they know whether to buy blue or pink, but some like to be surprised."
Synthia thought for a couple of minutes, then said, "It doesn't matter. It's my baby; I'll love it no matter what it is."
"I must say, Synthia, that is a very mature way to look at it."
"She's been very thoughtful about this," Mom said. "When we realized that the ray had worked on her, I told her that she didn't have to have the baby if she didn't want to. She thought about it for two days and said that she wanted to have it."
"Has she been eating right, taking care of herself?"
"Yes. I bought her some books on pregnancy, and they're practically all she reads."
"She's a wonderful patient, and seems like she has the makings of a wonderful mother."
"Yes, she does."
"She's in the room," inserted Synthia.
Sheesh, if her getting pregnant didn't cure adults of that habit, what would?
