Down this path for body parts to swap they must come off first. While detached smooth skin takes its place.

Whether or not the person it was detached from can still feel it or use it or not is up to you. Same with if it's biological function is still required if it is then they must swap quickly or until they need to carry out that function.

When options like these have been established keep them in mind when adding chapters that follow that path.

Because this is body part swapping, parts cannot be reattached to the original owner without being attached to someone else first and they must also attach a replacement part before reattaching is possible.

As for the cause of this strange occurrence that's up to you.
