"Put it down," Janet said to her daughter. "I've got a bad feeling about that thing."

So naturally, Megan pushed one of the small, gray buttons.

Nothing happened.

"It's broken," said Megan.

"Put it down," commanded Steve. "Your mother is right. There's something unsettling about this place. Come one -- we're all going back to the car."

"Awwww, but dad!" protested Megan, dropping the device on the dusty floor. "It's cold and wet outside."

"You heard your father," said Janet. "Come on. You too, Alan."

The entire Donaldson family filed back out to the car, climbed in, and somehow managed to fall asleep in spite of their unusual surroundings.

But during the night, as the family slept, something strange began to happen to their minds as the thoughts, memories, and personalities of a distant, random family began to gradually leak into the brains of the Donaldsons.

Steve was the first to awaken, and did so with a fright.

"Help! I'm scared!... I... I... what's happened?" he shrieked in a high-pitched falsetto that immediately wakened the rest of the family.

"What's wrong, honey?" mumbled Alan, yawning and stretching.

"Why am I sitting in the front seat?" said Steve. "I don't know how to drive!"

"Don't look at me," replied Janet, sticking her tongue out at Steve. "You're just a stinky, dumb, girly sissy anyhow."

"Quit it, both of you!" snapped Megan in a gruff, authoritative voice. "Honestly, we can't the two of you anywhere without this constant bickering."

"Settle down, dear," replied Alan in a soothing, gentle voice. "Mom and Dad are just scared and tired. It's been a tough night for all of us, honey. Let's just go home."

"B-B-But I forgot how to drive!" wailed Steve hysterically, hot salty tears streaming down his cheeks.

"Oh, for crying out loud," muttered Megan. "Fine, fine, fine. I'll drive. Alan, I want you sitting up front with me. Mom and dad -- both of you get in the back seat, right now. And no fighting, so help me!"

The family all exited the car, Megan replaced their flat tire with the spare from the trunk, and they all took their new seats.

"Now," said Megan. "I'd like some peace and quiet while we drive home."
