After a minute or so of squinting over her open palm, Naomi's search proves to be for naught. "Wow bro, you sure are good at hiding," she giggles, unaware that her shrunken sibling would much rather be found right about now. "But it's boring if I can't find you for too long. Let's go ask for some help." And with that, she strolls out your room and down the hall, cupping her other hand over her palm, just in case.
Down below, your entire world is once again thrust into darkness. You don't quite understand what your sister is planning, but you hope she knows what she's doing. Your hopes are immediately dashed as everything zooms forward at a speed you couldn't handle, sending your super-microscopic self flying backwards until you hit a hard wall (in reality, just the sides of a letter on the massive penny). The penny itself, thankfully, isn't launched very far, having firmly anchored itself in the canyon-like ridges of Naomi's fingerprint. This darkness is flooded with a cacophony of sounds you can’t quite recognize, though it’s actually just your sister walking around and calling someone’s name. Regardless, it seems the journey to... wherever you're going might take a while.
As your head spins from smacking hard metal for the third time today, you decide to try and figure out just how small you are. Let's see... After it got shrunk at maximum power, this penny that's like a vast landscape to me is now tiny enough to fit in the prints of Naomi's hand. Prints that, even at your previous speck size, still only went up to about your ankle. Your past self would probably tower over you even more than Naomi did before. The thought makes you dizzy. I'm basically a dust speck compared to a microbe now… How am I supposed to get out of this??? You doubt Naomi even knows how to use a microscope, much less find you with one. Even then, she’d have to aim precisely enough to zap you with the remote to grow back. The possibility of all that happening seems about as insignificant as you are. But before you can succumb to despair, light returns to your world as 5 continental fingers give way to a familiar black void. With little else you can do at this size, you watch your goddess of a sister and wait for whatever happens next.
Back in the normal sized world, Naomi had just barged into her sister Jacqueline’s room. "Ugh, what do you want...?" her older sister moaned from her bed. “Can you help me with something?” starts Naomi, brushing off her sister’s annoyance from being disturbed. “There’s something really, *really* tiny on my hand. So tiny I can’t see it anymore." She holds out the hand you're on, to visualize. "Can you help me find it, please please pleeeease?”
Jacqueline is not easily convinced. “Naomi, I thought I told you to stop playing with bugs outside. Anyway, if you can’t find whatever that thing is, what am I supposed to do? Shrink or something?” Despite the obvious sass, Naomi can't help but consider the possibility. If I tell Jacqueline what happened, maybe she'll shrink down to find Ethan, and the three of us can play some more… Or she’ll just tell on me for shrinking him. Knowing Jacqueline's tendency to pick on her younger siblings, that wouldn't be out of the question. Maybe I should just keep the remote to myself and we can find Ethan the hard way... but then we might never find him, and I'll get in trouble...
Regardless of her choice, Naomi knows one thing: the more time it takes to find her teeny tiny brother, the less time she has to finish their game. With that motivation to fuel her judgement, Naomi breathes in and says…
