"You know, I feel pretty good," you said as Cloe handed you an apron to wear and mark you as an employee of the store. "What was that stuff anyhow?"
"Oh, a little bit of this and a little bit of that," Cloe answered. "I suspect we'll find out exactly what it is soon enough."
You frowned at the way she phrased that. "What does that mean?"
"Oh, nothing, dearie. Here, why do you manage the cash register for starters? That should let you get more familiar with some of the items around the store here."
You questioned the wisdom in trusting some random boy off the street with the money of the shop, but you weren't the type to make off with cash like that. Plus, you were admittedly kind of curious to see what this shop had to offer.
Once you were settled into place, Cleo showed you to counter where an old fashioned register made of iron like something out of the early 1900's awaited you.
"I'm sure you can figure things out," Cleo said before waving you off. "Now I have another batch to prepare. If this works well, we might have the next best seller."
There she was talking nonsense again. But you weren't given the chance to question her as a short little man carry a huge box that looked like a treasure chest came your way.
"Hello, lad," squeaked the tiny man. "I see old Cleo's got some new blood, eh?"
"Err, yeah," you said, before remembering your manners as an employee. "Do you need a hand sir?"
"Sure do. If you could just grab the bottom there and help me lift it...That's the ticket."
The two of you did the awkward dance of hoisting the chest up onto the counter with you doing most of the hard work. The small man was just taking the edge of the weight. The moment the box got onto the counter, he let go before you were ready...With your hands still underneath the very heavy box. You could only watch in horror as the chest crushed your hands flat. Rather than suffering from an immense amount of pain that would result in you going to the hospital, however, you instead felt nothing at all. In fact, everything below your wrists looked like it belonged in a cartoon as you yanked it out from under the box and your hands resumed their normal shape, completely unharmed.
"What the...?"
Cleo's potion did have an effect on you, though it was still working its way through your entire body. Soon, you would be like rubber, stretchy and elastic rather than human meat and skin. But the potion's full effect would be to...
