This choice: Lucina ignores her worries and remains half-size • Go Back...Chapter #10Half the woman she used to be by: Kooplan No, this should be fine for now. Lucina mentally reconsidered her training.
Being able to smash through the larger training dummies was a testament to how strong she was, no matter her size. It didn't really matter that they were still being broken, just so long as provided enough of a workout to satisfy Lucina; and at her new downsized stature, they did. She saw no reason to up the ante, not yet, at least.
Satisfied as she might be, Lucina still wanted to check on Robin. He must be getting bored just watching her, even though he was too kind to say it, anyone would tire of watching another's training after enough time passed. She turned to face him, but found that she could not find him in his previous spot.
".. Robin?" Lucina called for him, no response. She scanned around for the tactician and any sign of his distinct white hair. Sighing in relief, she spied him a good few meters away, he looked like he was carrying something.
"Ah, Robin, there you are." Lucina called to him again. He didn't respond though, in fact like before, he didn't even seem to hear her. Was he just being rude all of a sudden?
Lucina sighed. She knew that wasn't it. Robin didn't have a single mean bone in his body. She whispered under her breath, "I must be too small for him to hear from this distance..."
So Lucina walked over to him. It wasn't far, and she was still not tired after her training. However, Lucina did not account for her reduced height making the short distance seem twice as far at her new downsized stature. The simple walk quickly turned into a jog for the shrunken blue-haired young woman - she didn't want to spend all night just getting to Robin.
As Lucina closed the gap between Robin and her, she noticed that the tactician was actually carrying an assortment of what appeared to be carefully collected scraps from the wreckage of destroyed dummies that she'd left behind. Ahead of him was an even bigger pile of trash. Lucina slowed to a stop. Watching Robin, who no doubt felt the need to clean up the mess she'd made, work all by himself left her feeling a little guilty about things.
Hm, I can still help. Lucina thought. She started back towards the training area. Robin was carrying about three "bodies" at a time, it seemed. Lucina smirked, thinking she could still handle that kind of load, even while being so much shorter than usual. This will be a nice change of pace to my exercise!
Lucina bent down next to the log that used to make up a training figure, but was now sliced in two. She picked it up, or rather, hefted it up with some strain; pushing both pieces together as she did to save time. The thing was nearly equal in length to her arm. It was also heavier than she expected.
"Oof!" Lucina grunted. Her strength was not failing her, but rather, weight was the issue. Still, she persisted and held the log under her arm.
Almost building up a sweat, Lucina moved to another piece of broken up statue. Repeating the same process as before, Lucina tucked the second piece under her other arm. This one was a little smaller, so Lucina managed without much added trouble. She thanked her previous foresight to have sliced the bottom "legs" of the dummy off as it fell.
"Huh..! Huh..!" Lucina heaved as lugged the two logs to the best of her ability. It wasn't excruciating, but it was far from as easy as she'd hoped. With her arms pressed far from her sides and with lumbering steps, she began walking with the near identical pair made the little Lucina look like she was impersonating a monster to amuse her younger sibling.
Without being able to see where she was going, Lucina wound up stepping on a rather pointed stone. It was small, almost enough to be considered a pebble. However, since the blue-haired female lord was smaller, it seemed a fair deal bigger - and hurt a great deal more!
"Ow!" Lucina whimpered as she instinctively retreated her foot from the rock, taking a wide step backwards. Unfortunately, she'd not accounted for the extra weight she was carrying up top. She shrieked as she lost her balance and fell over backwards, then grunted in pain as she became sandwiched between the earth and the log dummy she'd remained holding.
"R-Robin..!" Lucina cried out faintly, her voice sounding even quieter since her chest was being compressed by such a heavy load.
Robin gave no response. Lucina could see him, just a little bit further away and working on the large pile he'd gathered. She hoped he'd at least look in her direction, but he seemed too busy reading with his work.
Damn, he can't hear me, still? Lucina thought, wincing as she tried to breath, finding even that difficult without focusing on simply doing the innate action. She immediately tried to shake off the oversized dummy, to no avail. Her arms were pinned under it in such a way that she couldn't get the right grip. Gods, if only I'd thrown it away before I fell!
"Robin! Robin!" Lucina again shouted, gasping for breath in-between cries. He was her only hope at this point. If he didn't hear her, the trapped swordswoman feared she would eventually pass out from lack of oxygen. Defeated by what amounted to a mere log, she thought such a fate would be far too humiliating to recover from... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
