Chapter #3

More Food for Less Reasons

    by: Gabidy-Gook Author IconMail Icon
Todd, Janice and Sam were getting their evening meal after a boring day in the engineering corp. They all traded tired looks knowing how they had spent the time today. Todd swiped his card on the Food Processor Station(FDS) and received a nice balanced plate. Janice swiped her card and received a nice balanced plate, although it was larger. Finally, Sam swiped her card and she received an even larger plate, to which no one noticed. After a month of this, they didn't even look at what the thing put out, they just accepted it and ate it. Todd quickly finished, as always. Janice and Sam were somewhat struggling to finish their feasts, they credited it to not doing 'that much' that day and that they weren't hungry. The truth, however, was a little more filling. The trio returned to their separate quarters and turned in for the night. Sam struggled somewhat with sleeping, her food baby left her tossing and turning for a bit. The next day at morning meal, Janice and Sam's portions were bigger again, and again it was unnoticed.

"Ugh, I feel bloated" Sam said aloud as the three entered engineering, "it's not even that time of the month."

"That's why I disabled mine." Janice said as she sat at her station.

"That's your choice, yaknow." Sam said picking a holographic clipboard. "I'm going to inspect the ship. I think a long walk will help me out."

"None of the systems even say they're below 95% on the live diagnostic." Todd said as he studied a series of output graphs. "Stay down here, it's not the same without you."

"I'd rather go for a walk. Maybe tomorrow, or the day after or after that." Sam exaggerated as she open the door. "We're only on this lump of alloy for a few months." she closed the door behind her.

"Did she look bloated?" Todd asked turning to Janice

"A little" she replied, one of her hands on her own slightly swollen gut.

Sam's walk wasn't working, she was feeling worse than when she started. The ship was much longer than she anticipated. Most of her journey had been the walk between the crew quarters and the Bridge. There was a small tram, but she had opted to walk. It did give her a chance to check the pipes and cables along the way, and of course they were all fine. Just like Todd said. Her stomach grumbled, it was making her uncomfortable the whole time. Her free hand rubbed it, which helped a little. Soon it was running larger circles around her slightly domed abdomen. As she reached the bridge, she decided to stop by the medical bay.

"Hey Doc, can ya give me ah quick scan?" Sam asked, peering at a maintenance panel.

"Sure thing, hun. What's troubling you?" Dr Jones asked her as she procured her hand-held scanner..

"I've been feeling bloated for a bit, want tah make sure it's nothing serious."

"Perfectly reasonable, and..." Jones gave Sam a quick scan, "you're perfectly healthy." her brow furrowed as Sam looked away. "How'd she get that much food?" she thought

"Then why could I feel bloated?" Sam pondered aloud.

"Maybe you're just imagining it? I can scan just to make sure, if you'd like."

"nah, if tah scanner didn't find nothing, then it's nothing wrong." Sam replied opening the panel. "I'll just have to wait for it to go away, I suppose."

"It's weird, I haven't felt full like this in years." Janice said rubbing her tummy.

"The FDS give out perfect portions. I don't feel weird." Todd replied, rubbing Jan's shoulders.

"I didn't say it felt weird, feels kinda good actually. Just how full I am." Jan clarified.

"Yea, yea." Todd replied, patting her shoulders. "Maybe you need to work some of it off?" he continued, running his hands down her arms.

"Mph, maybe" she smirked and grabbed her suit's zipper.

~~~
The trio reunited in the mess hall, and again they didn't notice the FDS giving larger portions to Janice and Sam. It was just so completely unexpected they didn't even think it could happen. Coding in this time was rock solid, assuming it's coding.
"How was your walk?" Janice asked, relishing in her meal.
"It was ahlright, didn't make me feel any bettah." Sam responded as she ate. "Made me real hungry, though."
"Maybe you should take it easy tomorrow." Todd suggested, placing a hand on her leg.
"Nah, maybe some more activity will make me feel bettah." Sam said, placing her hand atop Todd's
The three finished their meals. Janice slept soundly, rubbing her food baby. Sam, however, was restless again.
