“... please give me some...” Mt. Lady said in a small voice. Naoko looked up as he couldn’t believe his ears. Did... Mt. Lady...
“I’m sorry. Could you repeat that? I couldn’t quite hear that.” Naoko asked. Well, he did hear it but it was so unexpected that he couldn’t believe it.
Mt. Lady blush deep in embarrassment. “Can you please give me some money?”
“What...? I don’t understand...” Naoko said in confusion. He thought he was going to jail but now this Pro hero wants the money that he stole?
Mt. Lady quickly got angry and flustered. “Do I have to spell it out for you? Please, Mr. Naoko, can I have some your money?” Mt. Lady looked angrily at Naoko but quickly hung her head down and look at her feet. Her whole body is quivering nervously.
She’s... serious. But this is so out of the blue that Naoko had kept his guard up. “Why? Why do you want money from a villain? Aren’t you a Pro hero?” Naoko carefully said in way that won’t confirm anything.
Mt. Lady’s nervous anger subsided. “I’m in huge debt. Due to my quirk, I destroy the city much more than I save it. Broken buildings, flatten cars, new hole in the street. My Hero office is in the red. If I don’t do something to turn it around, I will lose everything i’ve worked so hard to build.” She said, briefly meeting Naoko’s eyes only to look down in shame.
Naoko scratched his wrist. True, that throughout Mt. Lady’s career, she has been responsible for many property damages. It’s been reported she does not make enough to break even for those costs.
Still... “So, if I was this supposed villain, why would I give you any money?”
“After you give me the money, I would anything you want. I would even help your heist at U.A. in two weeks or anything else you need of me.” Mt. Lady said, reluctantly. She said it like... it was rehearsed.
After? This... seems incredibly suspicious. Asking to be paid first? Leading the conversation to U.A., even if that was what Naoko was planning to do anyway? ... arrghh Naoko felt stupid for almost falling for it. This is a Pro hero he is talking to. A professional. She may have figured out he was a villain but she is looking for proof. And the money would be great evidence against hi .
But... this is still an opportunity. If she is this keen on taking Naoko down, he could use this situation to his advantage and use her.
“Alright, I would accept this deal, as if I was a villain,” Mt. Lady slightly relaxed. “But only after you do what I ask of you.” Naoko said. Honestly, he likes the idea better to take control for his would-be-captor.
“A-after?” Mt. Lady tensed up a bit. Bingo. It seems she was trying to set a trap.
“Right, after. See, I don’t exactly trust you. How would I know you won’t run off after I gave you my imaginary money?” He is careful not to let her know he is onto her trap. “It much better for me to give you something after you give me something. After all, you need it way more than I do.”
Mt. Lady’s face is in distraught. For a moment, then she quickly hides it away. “Well... I suppose...” It seems the wind was taken out of her. But she went into deep thought.
Naoko feels triumphant but he knows better not let her think of a way out. He has gotten this far. He might as well go all the way and try to bring her under his control. “Well, i’m waiting. Do you want my nonexistent money or not?” Naoko said with noticeable impatience and glares her down for extra measure.
“Wait! ... fine. I’ll do what ever you want for... the money.” My. Lady seems to have choke that last bit at the end.
Naoko is pleased. At first, I thought he was going to jail. Now he has the Pro hero he’s been having a crush on in his pocket. He can feel himself feeling a little excited by the prospect.
“Then I accept. You are hired. And I have the perfect job you if you want your precious money.”
