House Baratheon has been ruling the Seven Kingdoms for over fifteen years. Their reign came about as a result of Robert's Rebellion. After the deaths of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and his father, Mad King Aerys, Robert Baratheon had usurped the throne.
For a while after the Mad King's death, the realm seemed a better place. However, the people of Westeros soon realized that while Robert Baratheon was an excellent leader of armies, his aptitude as a leader of the people left much to be desired. At least under the Targaryens' rule, there had been stability and security. Or so you had heard, anyway. You were only born a year or two before the rebellion began. Even so, the quality of living in Westeros had gradually gone downhill overtime.
That may be another sign that it would be ideal to move on. After all, what good could come from living in a country with an incompetent king? You feel you would be much better off taking your chances with the Nine Free Cities. Or, if worse came to worst, Slaver's Bay.
You take ahold of the reins and direct Aerion towards Maidenpool. As he begins galloping in the direction of the coastal city, you tell him softly "We've had enough of this miserable continent, boy. It's time to try our luck someplace else."
Aerion gives a snort, almost as though he is agreeing with you. After that, you ride to the east in silence.
Several days later, you arrive at Pinkmaiden. You have no trouble entering the town or accessing the harbor. To your good fortune, there are several vessels of Essosi design docked there. A number of them are scheduled to depart for the east by the end of the day. You are quite pleased. Not only do you have an opportunity to travel to Essos, but you have options, too!
