Holly hesitated, looking down at Alex, who was still shaking his head, his eyes silently pleading with her to not mention the device he made. But Melanie was her best friend. She couldn't lie to her. They had known each other for a long time.
"Well what?" Melanie replied, urging her friend on.
Holly took a deep breath then said, "Okay, look. The reason he's this small is because he invented a gun that can make things bigger or smaller." She stopped momentarily, giggling down at Alex before continuing. "And the reason he's this size is because I took his little gun and shrunk him!" She laughed harder, while her friend looked at her, not believing what she was hearing.
"Nuh-uh," she told her, looking closer at Alex for a few seconds before addressing Holly. "That's not possible...You can't be..."
"He's really 17!" Holly replied, laughing even more. "He used to be really tall!"
"Ooh, show me!" Melanie told her friend excitedly. "I wanna see it!"
"It's over here," Holly replied, as both girls hopped off the bed with ease. Alex, with his smaller stature, struggled for a few moments, finally hitting the floor and almost falling over in his haste. When he turned around and faced the two girls, he saw Melanie holding his invention, pointing it at him.
"Can...Can I use it on him?" she asked, a little hesitantly.
"Of course!" Holly replied.
"No!" Alex yelled, taking a few steps forward. "Please? I'm...I'm small enough! Please grow me back!"
Melanie laughed upon hearing him speak for the first time. "You sound funny!" she told him, pulling the trigger and hitting the teen with another burst of energy. The tingling sensation returned and Alex watched in horror as the room grew again.
"Wow! It really works!" Melanie said in shock, stepping closer to Alex as he continued to dwindle.
Alex stopped shrinking when he barely reached Melanie's...   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
