“Why are we hunting Santa?” Scott whispered to Stiles. He may as well have shouted the question - whispering around wolves was futile.
Jackson was a few paces in front of them, rolling his eyes without looking back. “Don’t tell me you still believe in Santa.”
Stiles scoffed, which finally made Jackson stop walking and look around. “Dude, werewolves. Witches. Banshees. Why not Santa?”
“It’s a Krampus,” Derek interjected.
“Disguised as Santa,” Isaac clarified.
“Who may, or may not, actually be Santa.”
“Scott, there is no Santa.” Derek growled. “It’s disguising itself as Santa to trick little kids.”
“We know this thing isn’t Santa, but there could still be an actual, real Santa.”
“It isChristmas Eve.”
Jackson was grumbling. “Next time, I vote we leave McCall and Stilinski behind.”
“Fine by me.” Stiles said. They had been walking around in the cold for a few hours now, patrolling different neighborhoods for any signs of the intruder. The Christmas trickster had been sneaking into houses in the middle of the night and kidnapping children, planning to sacrifice them as a Christmas ritual. The pack had discovered the terrified children in the woods, trapped in a cave and returned them to their families. This was the last night for the creature to collect enough children from the ceremony and the last chance the pack had to eliminate it before it went into hibernation for another year.
They had seen nothing so far and as Christmas Eve’s went, this had to be one of the worst. Another forty-five minutes went by before Derek held up a hand, eyes flashing red as he gestured to the roof of a nearby house.
Santa – the Krampus – was on top of the roof. He looked like an ordinary human to Stiles. Wide-figure, white hair and, although his back was turned to them, Stiles could only imagine a white beard to match, black boots, red pants and jacket with a thick, black belt…he definitely seemed more like Santa Claus then a monster here to kidnap children.
