This choice: Kat grabs the fat statue and pregnant statue • Go Back... "Wait for a second," she said suddenly, not even looking to see if Nathan had stopped as she picked her way over to the pedestal, "We'll probably need these."
The stone was cold and heavy as she hoisted the fat statue from its spot and moved to pick up the pregnant statue in her other hand. She wasn't used to how weak her body felt compared to when she'd been a teenager as she carried the statues over to her brother. She was aware that her shirt had slipped down and the large neck had exposed her nipples again, but it wasn't like she could do anything about it.
Nathan did his best not to look at her exposed chest as he took the statues from Kat and placed them in his pack, "Good thinking. This will save us a trip later."
Kat did her best to adjust her shirt, but it just ended up looking awkward. Finally, she sighed, "Look, I'm going to walk behind you. This shirt is a pain, and I can't focus on it the whole trip back to the jeep. Just try not to look, okay?"
Nathan nodded as he turned to face forward, "Yeah, sure. Let's get going. We'll worry about everything else on the way home."
Kat nodded as she followed him from the room. As they traveled down the stairs, she glanced back at the entrance doorway. She shook her head and continued walking behind Nathan. It felt weird being so exposed. She could feel the cool air tickling her groin, and her shirt had slid down her shoulder, hanging loosely from her frame as it left her chest on full display.
The sounds of the waterfalls began to fade behind them as they made their way out of the clearing and into the woods proper. The sound of the stream running beside the path was oddly relaxing as Kat struggled to keep up with her brother now that her legs were much shorter. It didn't take long for her legs to begin to burn as she rushed to keep up with his hurried pace as she had to take two steps for every one of his.
The sun began to set slowly as Nathan continued to move at a brisk pace down the path. Though, part of Kat was grateful that he was moving so fast. It helped keep the chill off her skin as they made their way back towards the clearings where the jeep was parked. Still, she felt her heart sink as the sun slowly disappeared from the sky.
Kat walked in silence beside her own huffing and puffing as she hurried to keep up with her brother's pace. She did her best to hike the shirt back up on her shoulder, trying to hide her chest from the cool breeze every time her brother would turn around. Soon the sounds of nocturnal insects began to fill the air, mingling with the gentle breeze rustling the trees and the stream snaking its way slowly through the forest.
She had no idea what had happened to her, though the voice had visited her before she changed had mentioned it was one of the goddesses. She hadn't told her brother yet. She had no idea how she'd broach that subject. Still, it seemed like her mind had stayed the same. At least for the most part.
She found herself wondering how her parents would take the fact that she'd gone from being 18 to 10. Well, at least physically, she appeared to be that of a 10-year-old, though she still felt like an 18-year-old. She had no idea how they were going to break the news to her parents. She really hoped that Nathan had a plan, though honestly, he'd always been smarter than her.
Still, she couldn't help feeling nervous. What would her friends think? It wasn't like she could just wander into high school as nothing had happened. No one would believe she was Kat. They'd just laugh at her and tell her to get back to elementary school where she belonged.
She couldn't help but feel like her life had just been twisted upside down. She'd gone from a young adult to a child in the span of a day. Why had this happened to her? She didn't deserve this. Still...
She felt a string in her groin as she realized this was exactly what she'd imagined in the temple. She'd wished she could be a child again. She'd wanted to feel her body grow with a child while being one herself. She'd wanted to return to the carefree times when she didn't have to worry about having a job or what college to go to. Well, now it seemed like she was getting exactly what she wished for. She guessed the adage about being careful what you wished for was true.
She sighed as she glanced up at the full moon as it moved from behind a cloud, filling the forest with faint white light. Honestly, it seemed really serene here, almost like a place out of time. It felt like as long as she was in this forest, the rest of the world didn't exist. She knew it wouldn't last, but she found herself wishing she could stay here, lost to the world a little longer.
Finally, the trees separated, and Kat stopped next to Nathan as they both looked at his jeep. Kat was huffing and puffing as she wiped some sweat from her brow. Being a kid was definitely harder than being an adult when it came to keeping up with Nathan.
"So, huff, what, huff, are, huff, we, huff, going, huff, to, huff, do about, huff, mom and dad?" Kat asked, trying to get her breathing under control.
"Hmmm, I've been thinking of that, and I think I have a couple of ideas," Nathan said, placing the packs on the ground as he began digging around for his keys, "The first is the easiest, but also going to be really awkward. We just tell them the truth and hope they believe us. You still have all your memories, I assume, so you can prove you're Kat by telling them things only Kat would know."
Kat found her heart sinking as she thought about trying to convince her parents that she really was Kat, "And what are the other options?"
"Now, hear me out on this one. We could pretend that you're one of my friend's younger sisters and that I offered to watch over you while he was away on an expedition. We just tell them that you, like Kat, offered to stay at my lab or a friend's or something so that you, as my friend's sister, would have a place to stay."
"That would work, but what about school? I mean, no one at school is going to believe I'm Kat." Kat said, shaking her head.
Nathan frowned, "I'll see if I can forge an excuse note from Dad. That should at least buy us a few days, possibly a week, until we can figure out something better. Though, I guess we'll have to enroll you in elementary school for the time being so that mom and dad don't get suspicious that you aren't going to school. Of course, all of this is moot if we just tell them the truth."
Kat sighed, looking down at her body, "Is there any other options?"
"I mean, I guess you could just hide out at my lab while we try to figure out what to do. Though I don't know if the university would like the idea of me leaving a 10-year-old alone with expensive equipment all night, so we'd have to avoid letting anyone find out."
Kat tugged at the hem of her shirt; she didn't even care that her chest was on full display to her brother. It wasn't like there was much to look at anyway. She didn't particularly like any of the plans much, but she didn't really see any other choice. They needed to decide what to do.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
