As you know, at some universities you often end up with classmates from other majors because you share a couple of courses. That’s how the friendship between Nicol, Yonatan, and Gissel began—Nicol studying nutrition, Yonatan radiology, and Gissel nursing.
A ordinary day at lunch, an interesting conversation started.
“Alright, Nicol,” Gissel said, “your friend Max seems really chill.”
“I’d say so,” Nicol replied with her usual relaxed smile, “but it’s cool hanging out with him.”
“Then you can talk about Max later,” Yonatan interjected, “right now I’d like to hear what you just said—I found it really interesting.”
“Okay,” Gissel continued, “I just wanted to see if that girl was hiding something about Max, but I don’t think I’ll get the truth out of her anytime soon.”
“In fact,” Nicol responded with a hearty laugh, “you won’t have to wait long because that’s exactly what I wanted to talk about.”
“Are you dating Max?” Gissel asked.
Yonatan, for his part, held back from commenting. He even looked a bit uneasy, but he concealed it well enough that Nicol didn’t notice.
“No,” Nicol continued, her excitement evident—no, not that kind of excitement—I’ll get right to it: I want to propose that we swap bodies.
“Uh… hold on a minute,” Yonatan replied nervously, “are you talking about those ads that have been all over the internet lately about ReMega Technologies?”
“That’s the one,” Nicol said triumphantly. “You know, they offer some great discounts, though what caught my attention is their four-person swap package.”
“You’re right,” Gissel said. “The deals they offer are tempting, but do you really want this? It seems like you’re just getting swept up by the marketing.”
“You sound like my mom,” Nicol grumbled, “saying ‘you should take better care of your money,’ ‘you need to learn how to manage it,’ ‘don’t take out loans,’ ‘always keep some money aside for emergencies,’ ‘think about not spending instead of just splurging.’”
“But those are good pieces of advice,” Yonatan whispered.
“What did you say?” Nicol asked, not having heard him clearly.
“Ah!” Yonatan said, trying not to look bad, “I mean, we should at least consider everyone’s budget.”
In response, Nicol immediately pulled out her phone and accessed the company’s official website to show her friends the available offers.
Upon entering the site, the following slogan appeared: “We want to help you, which is why we offer you the following.”
There were packages of all kinds, some with very suggestive names:
- **“Teach your children to be more responsible, to know how to respect and appreciate the effort you make for them.”** This one featured the silhouette of a man alongside that of a little girl.
- **“Correct the mistakes that biology’s randomness gave you and become who you were always meant to be.”** In this case, the silhouette was that of a young, fit man and a woman with an attractive figure.
- **“Better understand your partner—show them how difficult life can be from your perspective.”** Here, several silhouettes appeared: one of two considerably older individuals of opposite genders, another of middle-aged spouses, and yet another of a teenage girl and boy.
“There sure is variety,” Gissel remarked after looking it over, “but with those prices I don’t think we could ever afford the service—it sounds like we’d have to save for a couple of years.”
“Not at all,” Nicol said energetically. “What really interests us is this one.” She pointed to an offer that clearly stood out among the rest:
**“Four-Person Body Swap: Mix and match however you like, or leave it to chance! This package applies to any group of four people—no age restrictions or other limitations, as long as everyone gives their consent.”** The accompanying image showed about ten silhouettes representing every body type imaginable: men and women of all ages, races, and builds. What really caught the eye was the price.
“Wow,” said a fourth person who had approached the group, “you were right, Nicol; that price is really good.”
Everyone turned to look, confirming that it was Max.
“That’s exactly what I was telling you,” Nicol said, even more excited than before, “this is a unique opportunity we have to seize.”
“Hold on a minute,” Gissel said, confused, “the package is for four people. Is Max the other person, apart from the three of us, that you had planned to include in the swap?”
