Claire woke up at her desk suddenly as her phone blasted her alarm directly in her face, the light nearly blinding her before she quickly hit the off button and turned the screen off, lifting her head up and groaning. She had fallen asleep just three hours ago, her head buried deep into her AP US History textbook, with a notebook, water bottle, and several pens surrounding her. She stood up from her chair and cracked her back, stripped naked, then walked across the hall to take a shower at the tender hour of five thirty in the morning.
Once she was sufficiently clean, she came back over to her bedroom and pulled on a pair of gray leggings, then a black hoodie with the Sky High Volleyball Club logo on it in red. She quickly brushed her hair and pulled it back with a gray Nike headband. She went back to the bathroom and began applying makeup to her pale, tired face. Her eyes were bloodshot and accentuated by dark circles under them. Unfortunately, this had become a very common theme. After taking the task of participating in both school and club volleyball, plus taking on a score of honors and AP classes, had begun to take its toll on her body and psyche, leading to many late nights and stressful days.
As she went downstairs and passed her obese mother, then got in her car, she had a choice to make.
