You watched as Bubblegum's expression became one of pure disbelief, with her eyes shot wide open, just like her mouth. Her hand rushed to her hair and nervously ran through it.
"A-A... a hu-man? Here?" she stuttered,
"H-How can this be possible? I thought Finn was the last one..."
The statement left you considerably perplexed.
'Finn was the last one'...? What did she mean by that? Were humans extinct in... wherever you were?
Bubblegum was the first to recover from the surprise.
"W... Who are you?" she began,
"And how'd you get so small? You shouldn't really be that size... you shouldn't be here either, what happened? What did you do to yourself?"
The series of questions left you speechless for a moment, before you gathered enough courage to reply,
"I... I don't know!" you exclaimed.
"What you don't know, little one?" Bubblegum asked.
"I... everything, actually," you replied,
"I don't know why I'm here, I don't know why I'm small and I don't even know where I am or who you are!" you explained,
"So, basically, I just know my name."
You proceeded to tell Bubblegum your name.
"So, you're just a lost, shrunken human?" the pink haired princess asked. You nodded timidly in response.
"Hmm..." Bubblegum pondered something for a second, before you found her pink, slender arm lowering, headed straight for you.
The smell of gum hit your nostrils as five small fingers wrapped around your body and lifted you from the throne of the princess, before she took the place she previously occupied, unaware of your presence in the throne room.
Bubblegum looked at you intently.
"... Do you remember where you are from?" she asked then.
"... Kinda?" you hesitated,
"Definitely not from here. This place seems so surreal..."
"Well, you're in Candy Kingdom... right, where are my manners? I should probably introduce myself," Bubblegum said,
"I am princess Bubblegum, ruler of this kingdom. And you're a human. Your kind is very rare in these times... actually, I believe you're the second remaining human of this planet."
"Nice to meet you, um, your highness," you replied, trying an awkward bow on her hand, though the princess judged it adorable,
"And... what happened here?... I mean, why did humans go extinct?"
"Not all humans, actually," Bubblegum clarified with a small shrug,
"I do think a few survived... anyway, it happened because of a great war that happened a long time ago." she explained.
War? Which war was she talking about?
"Um... forgive me, this may sound a stupid question, but is this planet Earth?" you asked.
"Indeed." the giant princess confirmed.
"Then I don't think I'm from this universe at all."
Bubblegum looked taken aback by your last statement and wondered what this tiny human was talking about.
You weren't even the weirdest thing she's seen, anything hardly surprised her after what happened with The Lich, but she could definitely say that you intrigued her.
"What do you mean?" she asked, placing a hand to her chin while she brought you closer, letting you sit in the middle of her squishy palm, which she brought right in front of her face as she assumed a pensive look.
You became slightly nervous.
"... Where I'm from, great wars have happened indeed, but I don't know anything of the war you mentioned. And, forgive me, but beings like you don't exist... not at all,"
"We didn't exist before of the war, but... this is strictly between you and me, I created the whole kingdom and its inhabitants as well." she said, leaving you flabbergasted.
"Y-You... you what?" you stuttered, unable to process what she just said.
"You heard right, I was the one creating the Candy Kingdom. I am not just a princess, I'm a scientist too."
"But..." you said, before a smile brightened your face,
"That's great! I mean, you can help me!... I mean," you trailed off to nervously clear your throat, suppressing the wave of enthusiasm you were feeling,
"... Can you help me find a way to regain my size... and possibly send me back to my rightful home?"
"Hmm..." Bubblegum let a familiar sound escape her closed lips.
Help you regain your size and go home? That'd be a challenge even for someone of her intellect, but that only made her feel slightly excited.
But still, a tiny human all for herself, a fascinating subject to study and a tiny companion she could always keep with her, unlike Finn and Jake... and sometimes Marceline.
Both perspectives were pretty tempting. She even considered keeping you for some time, then send you back home.
Bubblegum thought long and hard about what to do, and it took her a lot of consideration to make her choice.
In the meantime, you were left with your own thoughts. Was the princess gonna help you? Or was she coming up with sick ideas in which you had a starring role?... Oh God, was she planning to enslave you or keep you as a 'royal pet' or something?
Bubblegum's voice broke the silence, interrupting your thoughts.
"Well, you are in luck my tiny friend; I am in fact quite smart as a scientist and you've got quite a pickle..."
