2) [Post Crisis, simply due to how the events leading up to it happen the episode before Crisis] After Alice killed her mom Mary goes looking for a way to get back at the crazy bitch, finding salvation and inspiration when she discovers Catherine's company was working on shrinking tech, planning to use it on Alice so she could capture her and get revenge for the hurt she had caused, and to stop her stealing Kate away from her.
