The plan seemed simple. Nia and Brainy would go back in time and shrink themselves down to discreetly tail the teenage Kara, waiting for the moment they knew was coming: Kara's first encounter with Kryptonite. They didn't know when it would be or exactly how it would happen, but they knew Kara would get cut by it, and that would allow them an opportunity to get a blood sample. Until then, it was just a matter of staying close to her without being noticed.
Getting into the house was easy enough. Kara's bedroom window was open, and she was nowhere in sight. Brainy stealthily piloted the shrunken ship into the room, and the shrunken duo beamed themselves down onto an upper shelf of Kara's desk. He sent the ship away, not wanting Kara to notice it, leaving him and Nia alone to await their younger friend.
"Are you sure this is going to work Brainy? Even if we are small, she has super hearing and Kryptonian eyesight. She could still notice us." Nia said.
"I've calculated the chance of success as 96.42% based on what Alex told us about this date. As long as there aren't too many changes from Crisis, we can be reasonably confident of success."
Before Nia could ask what she should expect in the other 3.58% of situations, their conversation was interrupted by Kara herself. The 18-year-old Kryptonian walked into the room, already dressed in her pink prom dress. She was barefoot currently, carrying her heels in her hand. Without a Supergirl alter-ego to conceal, she didn't need glasses either.
"Awww she looks so pretty! This makes me want to go to prom again." Nia said excitedly. "Especially now that I have a date." She continued, lightly elbowing Brainy.
Brainy smiled at Nia's teasing, but then quickly got back into mission mode. "Nia get down, she's coming this way!" The two tiny heroes laid down on their chests on the shelf, peeking over the edge at Kara. The Kryptonian giantess sat down at the desk, putting the finishing touches on her makeup.
"So what's the plan Brainy? How are we going to follow her?" Nia asked.
"As soon as she stands up, we jump onto her and hold on. The ship will follow us from a safe distance, and we'll be ready to get the blood sample as soon as she is injured." Brainy said, inching closer to the edge of the shelf to get a better look. Nia followed suit, looking down at the face of her best friend's younger self. It was surreal to see someone she knew so well look so different.
Suddenly, her head began to spin, a feeling she recognized immediately as one of her daydreams. She closed her eyes and focused, trying to see what her powers well telling her.
What does Nia see? And what does it mean?
1. Nia sees herself cornered in a cave, with a 5 headed serpent approaching her. (She and Brainy are knocked off the desk into Kara's heels, and they spend prom night under her feet).
2. Nia has a dream where she and Brainy are trapped in a prison with bars made of pink fabric. (Kara notices the tiny duo but is skeptical of their explanation for spying on her. She decides to bring them to prom tucked somewhere they can't escape from: between her butt cheeks, inside her pink panties)
3. Nia sees her and Brainy plummeting down into an enormous canyon. Then a sudden movement from Kara sends Brainy and Nia tumbling into Kara's cleavage.
4. Nia sees herself trapped in some sort of sticky pink goop. (She falls into Kara's lip gloss and is applied to Kara's lips, while Brainy has to make a plan to save her).
5. Nia sees Alex's giant face looking down at her and Brainy. Before she can dwell on it, Nia and Brainy grab onto Kara's sleeve as she stands up, and they are carried out to the car with her. Unfortunately, Alex is driving her to prom, and she does not take kindly to aliens tracking her sister.
