Sometimes, you wish you could have moved to a different village. Sure, the little hamlet was safe from bandits and the like, being built on a hill and sporting some respectable walls; it even had a river close by, which opened up some fishing and the occasional traders coming through on their boats. The harvests were usually good too, so even the lowliest peasants had a little something to eat. Heck, the tax-collectors were even friendly! The village was only a few days' ride from the nearest city, so the King's men weren't sporting saddle-sores and grumbling about being away from their homes when they rode into town.
The problem? Most villages answered to an earl, or a lord, or maybe an Archbishop or monk if there was a temple or monastery nearby. Your particular village answered to a dragon. A HUGE dragon, covered in white and gold scales and sporting green eyes and wings, who could easily crush a castle in one clawed foreleg. She always said she would never do such a thing, though, claiming she liked humans too much to even think of hurting them.
That didn't make her any less intimidating to you. Friendly or not, mountain-sized dragonesses were still scary to a little human such as yourself. Especially if they were towering over you like a scaly, living mountain; giving a friendly smile....that showed off a VERY impressive set of fangs.
"Good afternoon, little one." She greets you, faint smoke coming from her nostrils. "What brings you to you Lady's domain? Something the villagers need?"
Despite your nervousness, you can;t but smile back. Gigantic dragon or not, you couldn't deny that she treated her vassals well. "Y-yes, milady," you answer. "It...concerns the 'size-shifting' you've been undergoing recently. A freind of mine happened to come across you while he was hunting in the forest. You were trying to beat your last record of, erm, big-ness, and---well, you didn't see him and, well, you sat on him. He was unharmed, don't worry!" You add, noting her nervous expression, "but he was....somewhat flustered by the whole event, milady. His ranting in the tavern could be heard three streets over!"
The dragoness chuckles at that, and gives her answer....  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
